A guy with a business DSL has 30 static IP's. He has a Netgear 24 port switch. Now, if the IP's are static can you run the DSL modem directly into the uplink of the switch or do you still need a DSL router between the switch and the modem? Any help is appreciated!

If I remeber right you should be able to just use a router to split the line off the modem but then you still need another 6 lines since that router it 24 ports.

I am not sure but either way you turn it he could use a nice routher with a good NAT system on it and leach the 30 lines without detection from the ISP. Thats less cash out of pocket for toys and also a lower overhead in his buisness.

If I understand you correctly, you have 30 IPs and a 24 port switch and you want to share the internet.

My suggestion:
Plug Modem -Straight Cable-> Uplink
Then Install the DSL software on every computer.

Easy :)

If the modem supplied had the abilities to assign the 30 static IP's then yes, this can be done. Basically the modem has a DHCP server built into it. More than likely this modem is also part router. Is there a web-based interface for configuring this modem?

What is the maker and model number of this thing, sound like a kick butt modem.
