He doesn't seem to mention anything really about the material of the case, so I'm led to believe it may just be painted.

Yup:

I used a Copper paint so I had to put a clear coat of Deft semi-gloss clear finish on to protect the paint from finger prints. Let it dry and remove the tape, using a razor as a scrapper to remove all extra paint (do not cut just scrap it off). Reassemble the parts and you are the proud owner of a new 120mm blowhole.

Copper paint, MAY seem a little difference in ambient case temp, but I honestly don't think so and copper isn't exactly the prettiest or sleekest looking color.

i thought he meant "copper paint" as paint made to go on copper ,not copper colored, the black stuff looks like painted copper, but the broze look dont seem to be painted on.?
