I've read posts mentioning artifacts and here are my assumptions thus far:
1) they're bad
2) they come from o/c'ing the vid card too far
3) they appear before the card becomes unstable
What do they look like? Does anyone have a pic or a link? And, also, if any of my assumptions are wrong or need to be elaborated, please feel free to do so :)
Snow,jagged edges,tearing.
Looks like snow, almost too fast to see but is VERY distracting. Makes games unplayable. The white flashes are individual memory locations failing!
Depending on the game, my GTS gets artifacts at 410mhz, but it will run games up to 450!! Looks like butt tho-
Have you tried ArtifactTester2? If it detects artifacts you should slow your mem clock a bit. Some don't like it but I do; try it if you want.
Duh forgot to put the link-

Artifact tester never gets my artifacts, but when I run q3 I get em. So you might wanna try something else to test em too.

just run a game with a nice black area (NeoRage Emulator comes to mind) and its easy to see the white stuff :)
Artifiacts are like little pieces of the game that just kinda blank out real quick and then come back. Depending on the game, I sometimes get them, but they're rather minor. I start getting them @ about 206-207 w/ my Radeon, but I've had it up to 210/210 stable (stock 164/164). Unless you're annoyed by them, I wouldn't worry too much.

try max payne, or 3dmark (i prefer max panye...its sooo much fun!!!)
If you don't like ArtifactTester2, which I can totally understand, just fire up Quake3 and look at the main title screen- it's in OpenGL and artifacts show up there beautifully.
