I have none, but I build those for people...

I have built 5 Shuttle SN85G4's and a SN95G5. I may have some more orders coming in soon

One has gone to my brother
One to a college friend (which she very much likes)
Three to my workplace

And the SN95 to my boss at work (he wanted a good small PC... lol)

I will build a system out of the Via EPIA-N board as soon as they release it in the US. (note it is Nano-ITX form factor 12cm square)

Is that sitting on top of a GameCube or is it attached/part of it?

It's just sitting on top of it for a size comparison. As you can see it has the same footprint but is a little shorter.

Is that related to the WebSurfer(Or WebSurfer Pro)?

Restorer
01-03-05, 09:34 PM
The insides look similar but the outside is much less stylish and set-top. My NIC looks more like a mini-computer than a WebTV box or modern VCR. It's also smaller than the WebSurfer Pro, and only has room for a very low-profile 64MB RAM chip. I'd upgrade it to 128 or 256 if I could find a short enough stick. The NIC doesn't have any sort of PCI or ISA interface either, and all internal molex connectors are of the floppy drive variety (I had to make an adapter to use the hard drive). I also had to make my own male-male IDE adapter, because the motherboard has a female IDE connector, like the ones on the cable.

All the Via Epia series ITX motherboards have a PCI slot, although a great deal of people do not use this as you have to decide to either use a riser to change the PCI slot angle which is turn effects air flow over the motherboard, or use a half height PCI card which can obviously effect product choice, using a full size PCI card in the ITX platform creates a system not far of a Shuttle in terms of height. In this situation obtaing a Shuttle with better performance, wider processor choice and better sound often makes more far more sence.

Also when you state the Inspire ITX platform, I am assuming that you mean the Insight P4-ITX which happens to have dimensions of (17cm*17cm) as defined by the form factor. It is the Nano-ITX form factor from Via which has a (12cm*12cm) dimension of which there are no P4 versions.
There was previously four companys producing P4-ITX platforms. Insight is the only one which I am aware of is still doing such, many of these systems had stability problems due to the tight motherboard design ensuring that the large P4 heatsinks got close enough to heat the RAM up.
Its also worth remembering that the Insight P4-ITX only supports a 478 processors with a 400/533 bus speed and Prescott Socket 478 Pentiums or Celerons are *not* supported (e.g. Celeron D - i.e. any 90nm CPUs).

When considering all this and the Via chipset, I personally would look more towards a P4 Shuttle type system with a Nforce chipset than a P4 ITX

I have a desire to make a small form factor pc for use in the living room to provide tv recording/playback functionality among other things...

someday...

That or build one inside of something else... although I don't know how adept I will be at contstruction of that time... time will tell.

I have the Shuttle SB62G2 with a 2.8Ghz P4 Northwood, a 16x single layer DVD burner, a 300G hard drive, and a Radeon 9800 that is passively cooled by a chopped up Aerocool VM101 heatsink. I also purchased the Shuttle SilentX 250W powersupply which is much quieter than the turbine sounding stock power supply, and swapped the Somewhat loud Sunon CPU fan for a Panaflo L1A. Overall the system is very quiet and plays most games well.

I have the FIC Ice Cube VG61. Running a P4 2.8Ghz. 1gig DDR333, Sapphire 9600.

I trully love this little box, but I cannot recommend it due to its fan being a little on the loud side. Well, when I first got it, the fan wasn't loud, but gradually it became what it is now. It sounds almost like a microwave oven. Not good.

It MIGHT not be as flashy as some of the premade SFF boxes out there, but I wish I had the time and skill to build a SFF from the ground up.

By the way, I took the rear blower off and the system was "quieter" for a couple of days, but the temp was a wee bit higher than before, so I took the same blower I took out of the case...looked at it...played with the rubber knob a bit, screwed it back into the case and it's like new again...what gives?!

I've got the two Shuttles in my sig. Cute and are surprisingly powerful for their size. I might build an mATX HTPC using a stylish case or just get another Shuttle when I put a 64-bit box together. The Pentium-M mATX mobos are out but it's kinda expensive to build one of those right now..

I have a low profile matx aopen case with a a7n266-vm, athlon XP 1700+, 40GB ex-x-box hdd, dvd.... FlexATX psu blew up, and it's too proprietary to find a replacement at a reasonable price, so I had to order a new full atx case and psu for it. It's my brothers now.

this system is going to be used as my smoothwall router to replace an older and bulky p3 system... hopefully this will cut down slightly on the power usage and space as my closet is getting quite full... i will post some pictures of the system once it gets here and fully assembled :)

while this system isn't tiny, it's flex atx which isn't even close to the size of what i am accustomed to using
