with the A7N8X-E, 230mhz is about what most are able to hit. You'd only need PC3700 for that (233)

As long as you stay with DDR1, you can use any of those in the A7N8X-E. you may not get to fully utilize it. Depends on many factors.
 
your motherboard can only handle upto X speed of ram - So why do people buy faster? So that they can over clock - if your mobo can only support DDR400 - PC3200 - then if you buy say PC3700 - then that means you can overclock your system that much further with out actually overclocking the ram yet :D
 
it depends on what ur mb supports. the different numbers represent the speeds the ram is guarenteed to run.i.e., if ur mb will run a 250 fsb, u can use memory that runs 250 mhz(pc4000)
