We all start some where. 32mb / 64mb/ 128mb / 256mb / 384mb .....

I started on 32mb. then it went to 128mb and what a difference!

Then it was 256mb and we were Blazin' then.

Finally broke down, because of playing games so much & bought 2 x256's

S W E E T.

Then came DDR....

Started over with 2x256's of some 2100 - Life was good.

Games got better & better too.

Then newer OS's came out. Can you say resource hog? (M$ -XP)

Love my games. Well, a good friend & Mod here (Voodoo Rufus)
mentioned to me how much Counter Stike was really using.

I noticed that some of my other games were , for better words, lagging.
one, is currently using 427mb when playing ! OMG !!!

I just couldn't believe it. I was only using 512mb to begin with !

Didn't matter that what I was using was some sweet Mushkin BH-5 Level 2.
2-2-2-5 does make a difference. /wink

So I spent the last few days out looking locally at what I have at my finger tips. Then spent some time here in the forums refreshing what I knew & getting updated after being out of "touch" for almost 2 years.

So I bought a gig of some OCZ that was a reasonable price. (under $210.oo)
Remember I bought local. (convience has it's price) buying off the internet I could have drastically cut the cost.

Stuck it in to & .... well, it was dead.
A R G H ! this really bit the big one.

I took it back & spent my $$ on some Brand New Corsair TwinX1024 3200XL
sticks. You know, the ones with that TCCD chips on it. :D

2-2-2-5 @ 200mhz. right outta the box.

Tried to go 205 & the timmings went right to 3-3-3-7
Settings set to Optimal, not expert. It "auto-switched" for
best performance. Hmmmm....

Only running my NF-7 at factory voltages & having gone over 40 birthdays,
I decided I would not try to purposely cook my mobo or ram.

Can we agree it gets expensive cooking our own equipment?

Well..... this new "fancy pants" ram with TCCD chip is suppose to be da-bomb. BH-5 replacements. - doubtful, but we will see.

They aren't cheap, I paid over $250 for 2x512 chips.
I have 15 days to decied if I really like them.

Or maybe a nice set of Geil 2x512's at 1/2 the price....

Ahh.... a Gig of ram running 2-2-2-5... :D

Choose wisley Grasshopper.

RAM timings

I remember back in the day going from 4k to 8k! lol Have you tried expert on your ram times and using 2.5 3 3 11? Or 2 3 3 11? The 11 seems to be the key with the NF-7 boards. I have OCZ 2x512 running at either 2.0 or 2.5 3 3 11. Heck I can't remember, it is New Years, rednecks are firing all kinds of guns around here! Maybe you need a new BIOS.

Good luck, Happy New Year, and I am sure someone who knows more will give you more info!

Snake - I need a gig.

Hafa - yes, I still have to play with the timmings under "Expert" yet.
& thanks for some of those ideas on timmings.

Voodoo - :D my bad, I thought you had finally been "Blessed".

& yeah, that old EDO ram was something else for sure. Not sure what, but something else for sure! :)
