I have read that most cards have a high latency and also the PCI latency can be changed. I do experience the occassional stutter in demanding games and have heard that a lower the AGP latency can help this. Who has had experience with this, is there a utility to change the AGP latency?? Is there something else I ought to know about latency times to help improve smoothness in my system??

Also I used a windows based program a while back which made a copy of my current graphics card bios. I have forgotten what the program was callled?? I want to check my current edited bios to make sure the settings I edited have worked...

Thnx in advance. :bang head :)

I believe I have the option to do this in the bios, also belive rivatuner does this?

Anyway...A simple google search will get you what you want, and this is just the first one I came accross.

X bios editor or Nibitor will allow saving and editing of your bios.

hey:) Thnks for the links

Yes I tried searching for AGP latency and found a forum, but the link to the utility they used was dead. He said he had the occassional stutter in Colin Mcrae05 and after changing his agp latency it cured it. I wouldn't mind trying this and i'm sure many would want to know about it if it does have an affect.

This article explains..

He said it's for ATI cards but perhaps there's a similar issue with nvidia, I dunno..

According to Ray Adams bios editor my AGP latency is 255. I can change the PCI latency in my bios, it's on default 32 atm - but i've heard too that windows can overide settings like this!!

I tried agptimer using command agptimer 8 -c but it remained on 255!!

I think Power Strip can sometimes change the latency. Here's a link:

This guys has a nice writeup, it helped my shutter prob. And he used powerstrip.

Nice article..

I used Powerstrip and set my agp latency to 64, it was on 248. I then rebooted and it remained on 64 but the strange thing is both agptimer and ray adams bios editor still say it's 255!! So i'm not sure if anything is actually changing atm!!

In SIS Sandra my AGP latency is reported as 64 clk, so I think the powerstrip overide has worked. I assume 64 is a good value to use, what latency have you found to give best results?

I read powerstrip isn't the best utility for setting latency at windows startup. So instead I used Double Dawg found here http://mark-knutson.com/t3/ I have to set the agp latency on each windows boot but now I have all my latencies on 32 - so hopefully I can lay this issue to rest:)

Just Dl'd DoubleDawg and it shows the same lats as powerstrip, makes me happy :)
