I have an AMD 1.4 with an Asus a7m266. When I set the frequency to 133 (with the multiplier at 10.5) the system will not boot. I took a look at the chip and it says 1400 on it. Right before the OS should load, it just hangs, like when you are overclocking and have the voltage wrong, I don't even get the windows splash screen. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

One more thing, when the settings for the CPU are at default, (frequency 100 and multiplier 10.5), it boots fine. I have tried 2 different os's, windows 2k pro and windows xp pro. Same situation with either or.

what are your temps? high temps often cause instabilities and lockups. it could also be your psu you need at least 300 or 350 watt for a 1.4 tbird. if you could post more specs of your system it would be easier to help you.

I have a similar problem bro...

I bought a new 1.4ghz AMD and if I let my MOBO automatically do the multiplier and vcore settings it only runs @ 1ghz. If I do like you said put the multiplier to 10.5 and clock to 133 my system will boot, but when I put load on it (like playing a game, or even sometimes surfin the web) my system locks up. And I do have a 300W PS, so if you ask me, I think it's probably a cooling issue. Do you have SiSoft SANDRA? Hot hot is the CPU when idle?

I had the exact same problem with 2 a7M's. Tried different PSu's, RAM and a host of other things for about two weeks before I finally traded it in.
Good Luck tho

If your using 2 memory modules that might be it,

When I use two DDR memory modules on A7M266, the system will freeze in Windows. If I take out one of the DDR module, the system will become normal. How should I fix the problem?

Answer:
This problem only occurs on certain DDR memory modules. To work around the problem, please set jumper VIO as [3-4] and upgrade BIOS version to 1004. A7M266 BIOS ver.1004 is available from the following URL.
http://www.asus.com.tw/products/motherboard/bios_socka.html#a7m266

I do find it odd that leaving the cpu setting to the default detects a 100x10.5 cpu as 100x14 should be the default for a 1.4ghz 200 cpu.
Maybe your cpu is really a 1.4 200 cpu and is locked so setting it to 10.5x133 it is really trying to run it at 14x133?

Thanks for all the feed back guys!

I didn't even think about using SiSoft Sandra. THen I could find out if my cpu is the 266 fsb or not. I have a 350 power supply and 2 DDR chips. I also have the lastest bios firmware revision.
I really think it's the chip though.

Thanks again. I'll let you know what happens.
