View Full Version : Best way to pack/ship a cpu?
Evening!
I was just curious of the best way to send a CPU out? I dont have the original Intel packing.
I have some nice foam, but was worried about it bouncing and bending pins.
I also have some styrofoam ( which I could cut etc), but was worried about static discharge.
Any other ideas?

put it between some thick foam, tape it, and ship it. Thats how they ship OEM processors.
Wow, I didnt realize that. I would have thought they'd come in a big flat of trays similar to the boxed version.
Thanks alot. Didnt want to send a busted product as one of my first few Ebay sales.

I don't know of the 'best' way, but I think of the ways OEM CPU's come and would try to duplicate it (without the special plastic forms). Maybe a razor knife and some static-safe foam. I'm thinking of that semi-rigid closed-cell pink stuff that is part of some commercial electronic packaging. Cut an opening large enough for the CPU body to fit into, then a smaller one below so the pins can hang freely without touching anything. Then just put a flat piece on top and double-box if you want. Just my idea... You could probably do the same with cardboard? If you need to ship an Intel 486 or Overdrive processor I still have some of the plastic boxes they came in! :) Don't use the white rigid styrofoam, it's static city as you mentioned.
