View Full Version : The Wizard was interrupted...
I keep getting messages when trying to install just about anything that says:
"The wizard was interrupted before (whatever app) could be completely installed."
It is very annoying because several apps and game patches will not install. I've already searched a bit and found no solution. Ran the MSI clean up utility and it did not fix the problem. Running XP Pro SP2.
Thanks for any help.

Have you disabled any Services?
Have you disabled any Services?
I've tweaked the services based on the Black Viper guide. All the ones pertaining to windows installation service should be running. This problem started recently and I have not changed any services since XP was installed.

Then I think I'd suggest cleaning the "C:\WINDOWS\Temp" directory, rebooting, and trying the installation of your software again. Instead of deleting the files, send them to the Recycle Bin for the time being. Before doing that though, you might want to run the Disk Cleanup Wizard first (Start | Run | Type cleanmgr, and click OK)...and delete any "Temporary files" that the Wizard finds.

Tried your ideas and still have the problem. It gets to the very end, the last it shows is "Publishing product information" before the last screen and the failure.

Try running Event Viewer (in order to access the error logs, and check for any critical errors)...Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc, and click OK | Highlight "Application" and "System" independently in the LH pane | Right click any error message(s) (critical errors are in Red), and select "Properties" | Write down a couple of the latest critical error messages exactly as they appear (under the "Description" field), and post them in this thread.
Also, open the System Information tool by typing msinfo32 in the Run box | Expand "Components" | Highlight "Problem Devices", and look for any problems that might be listed there.
...although it sure sounds to me like you have a needed service disabled.
Event viewer shows no errors. There are System entries showing the MSI service successfully starting. Also entries under Application that say the installation saying the installation was successfuly, then one that says it failed. There are no problem devices.

The only other thing I can think of is...in addition to cleaning out the Temp files from "C:\Windows\Temp" (which you've already done), clean out the Temp directory here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Temp
...and reboot as you did before, then try re-installing the software. Send the files to the Recycle Bin, just as you did previously.
All temp folder are remapped and I cleared them out before... still having problems.

what do you have running in your task manager? Could be something running in there that could be stopping it. Also though probably redundant...Are you logged in with administrator rights?
Only normal tasks running, and yes I am Admin. This only seems to happen with certain installer packages. For example Farcry 1.3 patch and the nvidia tech demos.
