I have a desktop wallpaper, I open an explorer window to look at some stuff, I can still see my desktop in the background still. I click view - details and I see my desktop wallpaper poof behind the window and all of my icons cram back to the left side of the screen. This has happened a bunch of times and its really quite irritating. Then it takes me 15 tries just to get my wallpaper back. Another thing, I set it to underline icons when I point at them, and it of course underlines everything, I sit there clicking apply, recheck, apply, recheck, frigging thing!! That plus my windows not saving their view settings!!! I think all this crap started after I loaded IE6. I'm positive the wallpaper problems are from it. And of course, theres no option to unload IE6

I am sorry to hear that it is a piece of crap. Does it ship with XP?

Try disabling your Active Desktop (if you have it enabled) Active Desktop gives me nothing but problems.. and it loads slow.. converting a background to BMP is really easy.

I have IE6 too.
It's quite similar to IE5.5.
Somehow, I don't have the problem that you have.
Maybe your's is a IE6 beta?
