I just bought a TDK 161040 CDRW, I have tried to record to my harddrive using "Windows Sound Recorder", and also "TDK MixMaster" Software. The end result is playback with with a wholelot of "distortion/scratching", when I download from a site, the sound is excellent. THE REAL PROBLEM IS WHEN I TRY TO RECORD FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE (RECORD PLAYER/TAPE DECK), I have tried using the RCA input in the front of my PC, and the "stereo mini-plug" on the (input) back of the mobo, both resulting with the same playback.

I have identified the "sound chip" as an "ES 1869F", can anybody help me???

Try the Mic input/line in volume below 50%.

Stupid question.... Is the record input set to the right spot?
Ummmmm..... You are recording from a CD... Is your CD lens clean? It should be if you can play stuff fine.

Try using sound recorder, and setting the recording input to "Mixer" under recording properties. Play a song off the CD, and when it starts playing, hit the record button. It should record.... Not as good as direct from the CD, but it should sound like the CD.

I am recording from a analog source... my turntable, since my tower has RCA inputs on the front side (Video/Stereo"L+R Channels"), I have tried using that, I have also tried using the "stereo mini-plug" on the "input" side in the back of my pc. I realize that when I copy a "record(LP)" it will not have CD quality sound, it is working, but a very low level w/ some bad interference sound.

Try the Line In again but set it at 80% then set the recording level to 80%. Turn off the equalizer. Use the equalizer when your at mix down not while recording.
