My sound gets crackly when my system is in heavy use. Id is fine when folding, or when running games, but my startup sound gets broken up, and any sound that is running when i click my dialup connection gets staticy. Its not a big deal, only a minor annoyace, but i think its probably something simple so i want to fix it. I am running Win 2000, and a SB Live! I have the latest drivers for the soundcard.

I won't assume anything.

Be sure the via drivers are the most update (if you're using a via chipset).

Be absolutely sure you have the newest drivers for the manufacturer of the sound card.

Try disabling legacy sound or other sound enabled options in your bios. Most of the time these are not needed and were there, from my understanding, for support for DOS games (what's DOS? :)).

Windows 2000 have some patches and compatability updates available through microsoft.com/windows update. Be sure to install everything they have to update, including IExplorer 6 (because it's pretty cool, not because it will improve your sound).

I think i have solved the problem. It was something simple likei thought, my wave/direct sound volum was turned up to near 100%. The main volum was down, but it still caused problems.
