server is more complicated.......more security features and capabilities. Pro is fine for most any home user.........
I only posted it to see what everyone uses mainly........I have 98, 98SE, ME, 2k Pro and Server installed on various machines.......I use 2k Server mostly tho.
If you duel boot you probabally still use one more than the other, unless you log how much you use one and then make sure you use the other to be fair :), in which case which?

I'd be running Linux. Built here from source. compiler gcc 2.95.3, glibc-2.2.4, Linux kernel 2.4.9 (installing 2.4.10 when I'm done here, ya it's out). Ain't no distros on me !!
Judging by what I see happening to Windoze systems with the Nimda worm right at the moment tying them up in knots and blowing security holes in them you could drive a Peterbuilt through, you couldn't pay me to run anything Microsxxx has to offer. Sure, I'll admit I keep a copy of 98 on the drive, but it hasn't been booted since the last time it bluescreened me a couple months back..
I tend to agree with those who think Windoze systems should require a license to operate, their a nuisance to the net, especially right now.

Honestly, I was very shy about upgrading to Win2K Pro. Driver issues and the other horrer stories kept me away. And besides I was having no major problems with my 98Se setup. I finally took the plunge. Wow. If I had known I would gain this much stability and it was this easy I would have done this a year ago. The past few weeks have been great.

I can beleive XP might be one of the best OSes out there, as far as MS is concerned. But 98se, I thought the same thing until I loaded up 2Kpro. No more BSOD no more lockups. I think if you were to pick the 2 best MS OSes it would be 2KPro and XP.

I again confirmed this last night when I set up a new machine for a friend. They wanted Win 98 and that's what I gave them. What a hassle. I am used to the ease of 2000 now and got the BSOD a few times when installing the MS updates. Finally got it stable. I remember when I thought that 98 was a breese.

there is no reason anyone here shouldnt be using a nt based os. even if you have a slower computer win2k requires a p133 to run. it will be the best $100 you spend.
when i used to use win 98se i could not get it to go for 1 whole day without getting a bsod.
then when i fist went out and bought 2k i left my pc on for 3 and 1/2 whole weeks without it crashing once.
now i use xp pro corp and i think with the new service pack i may need to go and buy xp pro (i know some of you know what i mean).

Man, i am ****ed!!! Cuz my sis works as a GA in SIU (a university), so i can get xp pro really really cheap (38$ shipped), anyway, so i ordered the "documentational kit", and just happily waitin' for its arrival. It did, a plastic envlope with a 34 pages of "document" of XP pro...nothing else... i am ****ed...now i have to spend another 38$ to order another "CD kit." WTF!!!

Got XP on my main rig - since I installed it a second time after less than one week it runs stable and fast! I´m pretty satisfied with XP by now!
On my parents rig (which is all mine :D) - I have running WinME - it´s fast with my Celly466 - not that stable - but for just surfing through the internet it´s a good solution!

Very stabile version of win9x. win98lite :D
win98se/95 explorer shell/ME disk utilities all packed into one well hacked win9x OS. Cacheman manages memory so well I can leave 98lite on 24/7 and it stays fresh. It can still blue screen when zapped with an ill manered app. I just get a better app to repace the crappy one.
Wish list:
w2kpro, debian linux, maybe xp after sp2.

I despise Bill Gates and his fuc**n Monopoly, I try to go to a Linux FTP to download the latest dist. and IE freezes. Hmm... doesn't freeze on regular FTP's! Grr! It is also configured so IE is the best browser, it doesn't let anyone make a better browser and now that when you installed the latest Security Updates to WMP, you agreed to allow your HD to be scanned for mp3's which may be copyright infringing. M$ doesn't know whether you actually own the cd, they'll probably just delete it... then comes palladium ! If you don't know about this OS take a look at

Winblows 2000 on 2 main rigs (and a laptop), Win98 on 7 other folders(in progress) Win 2K advanced server on server (duh) and Win95 on 2 old machines and stylus computers(old tablet PCs). And finally, once I get all this crap fixed up. a SuSe 7.2 linux firewall :D . I installed XP Pro on one main rig, it was HORRIBLE, internet wouldnt work, network wouldnt work, video card drivers were corrupted, too many security patches and crap. chewed up too much system memory/resources (even after tweaking it) printers wouldnt work (no XP drivers) local FTP server wouldnt run. Needless to say, M$ can keep that crappy OS to itself thank you very much.

XP pro on NTFS with RAID0 (not that these specs matter)
With all the updates and SP1, winXP pro is the best ever. If you have a larger hdd, definately take advantage of the NTFS. Overall it works a lot better than fat32.
All XP is is win2000 made to look all pretty with a few more bells and whistles.
I love it and will never go back to any other OS.

But I like the ability to tweak like Windows lets me do. With macs- everything works. Whats the fun with that?! :D

Lately I have been using win2k as my main, dual boot with Win 98. I prefer win2k to xp because I change mobos frequently and the activation is a pain with xp. I love win 2k!! I had issues with XP anyway. I actually managed to lock it up a couple of times due to driver conflicts. I think. I have very few troubles with 2k Pro

windows xp on my bedroom computer
windows 2k server on the server
red hat on my linux box (gotta have at least one, right?)
and i have a 180 day demo license for window server 2003 (someone's gotta add that to the options!)
i use 2k pro most often, though. the UI is faster than that of xp

well i voted xp because i use it on my main rig, however, i have win2k pro installed on my laptop, win2k server on my webserver, and winme on my parent's compaq.... i like to have different os's on differnet machines. i mostly selected xp for this one because i needed win2k pro for my laptop as it probably can't handle xp as well. plus i don't need any of the bells and whistles on my laptop as i use it for just simple stuff... win2k server... well that is obvious... it's a server! :) and then i have winme on my parent's pos compaq because it probably wouldn't run anything more :D

Server: Win2K Server
Work: Dual Boot Win2k Pro1/Win2K Pro2...I installed it twice I like it so much!! No, actually I use both, but mainly the first one 90% of the time. I use the second as a test area to try out new things...that way, if it gets really screwed up, its no big deal.
Home: XP SP1A. I used to dual boot this one as well, along with Win2K Pro, but when I put the "new" machine together, I didn't get around to installing 2K...yet..
I also actually have licenses for and used when they were popular:
Win 98SE (two copies) Win 98, and Win95. I've also used Lycoris and Lindows at work but I'm not really into Linux, so I formatted those machines in favor of Win2k Pro. :D
