It doesnt reall ymatter anyway. most 4x cards are 2x compatible and you can also set 1x if you want to. some cards dont like 4x agp anyway so you gotta back off to 2 x, especially when overclocking and you think your video card is holding you back.
As for video card, it depends on your current system, and how much you want to pay :)

Go for the
Radeon LE or
32mb DDR(if you dont wanna overclock/tweak the LE)
Some people may suggest an MX400 or similar, but trust me and the rest of the Radeon fans on this one cause most of us have tried both and the Radeon is the clear winner.
Good luck!
ps. 2x - 4x AGP makes no noticeable difference, so dont worry.

Whats the difference between the LE and the 32 ddr new egg has both $76 AND $74 each which is the better deal and can you tell me the difference between 1.0 and 2.0 agp slot compliant versions what does that mean

The 2.0 compliancy has something to do with extra 3.3voltage or something going to the port. At least that's what I've read on the Hercules site regarding their Kryo cards. I have a Leadtek Geforce2 GTS Pro card on my Abit BX133-Raid. It is a 440BX chipset and according to Sandra the AGP is only 1.0. Leadtek says the vid card needs a 2.0 AGP but the card works fine. My Abit BE6-II rev1.2 motherboard has the same chipset I'm assuming is also AGP 1.0. The Hercules Prophet 4500(KryoII) requires a 2.0 AGP and doesn't work on either motherboard. Assuming it's because of the AGP port.

if you want to tweak and overclock then the le is the better deal if you want to just plug it in and play then the 32mbddr is the better choice, the le is a criplled version of the 32mbddr(this can easily be fixed by ocing, and downloading software)....
