Is it possible to disable the Idle process in windows 2000?

Sohryu, we think alike ... I was going to say SETI, but I decided to leave it out :p.
BTW, I'll volunteer and do a little experiment ... let's see if that process can be crashed :D.

Nope, I get an error saying that closing the idle process is an invalid action  and since there's no way you could overload an idle process I guess it's there to stay.
I really don't understand why anyone would wanna disable it, though. The only thing achieved would be higher temps when the computer isn't working on anything.
If there's a program that really! needs to get all the CPU cycles just raise its priority to High and watch what happens :D. I think something in the order of 96% of the cycles would go to the dedicated process and your system will slow to a crawl (if the program can use all the cycles, of course).
DON'T use the Real Time setting! You'll never regain control and you'd have to press the reset button...
You can't kill the idle process. Why would you want to? All it does it count the time the processor is idle. It does nothing else, so why would you wanna bother killing it? To get back the whole *gasp!* 16k of RAM is uses?

Well, my proc. gets really cold now. Before when I was on windows 98, the only way I could make it that cool is by turning some kind of cooling program. I was thinking that the idle process is like a cooling program. Also, I was working on getting a new proc. and put a peltier on it, but with something running that cold, condensation would form.

I think the best thing to do would be to run SAH or FAH in the background... You won't really feel it's there, but it'll make you popular and keep your CPU warm ;) :D.

Id run CPUBurn in idle process, just in case Seti or Folding serves go down and your CPU idles :)

Good point ... first time the servers are down the CPU dies from condensation ...
Maybe a program less stressing than CPUburn would do, though. No reason beating the chip to death either ;).
