lets say i have old comp..
and lets say i want to add another fan to my correct comp..
can i take the fan from the old comp and put it in the correct comp case?
Cheers
Fans come in 3 basic sizes for cases 80mm 90mm or 120mm.
If the case you want to mount the old fan in has a place to mount that size fan then it would be simple.
If it does not have a fan mounting space of the same size then you would need to do some cutting of metal and drilling of holes for it to fit.
Every case fan I have seen uses 12v dc so the electrical part should not be a problem.
I've got a EDISA VIX-3 network server that uses 1 regular 80mm x 1" 12V fan for the power supply and TWO 80mm x 2" ball-bearing 110/220V fans for the case cooling.
Case is always cool and that is very important, specially considering the hardware it uses :
Intel 386 DX 20MHZ
Proprietary motherboard
onboard 2MB -70ns RAM
20Mb harddisk
Nec CGA graphics adapter.
SCSI controller (yeah !)
Of course I ripped off those fans and slapped them on my celly.
I have a rectangular hole milled in the top of my case with 2 80mm fans blowing in across the HS, MB chipset and RAM...also 2 80mm fans in front of case blowing out
temps go up at least 10C for chip and system w/o those 2 fans blowing in through the top

I just might have to try that, when its hot outside i cant hardly run OC'ed. I need to find a way to get my temps down about 2-3 degrees more to maintain OC.
I used zip ties to attach the fans together and removed the top of my case...drew the outline of the fans directly above my CPU. I had access to a mill so it made it easy to cut a rectangular hole in the top. After cutting that hole i drilled screw holes and just took some regular phillips screws that could anchor the fans down.
Results with fans blowing in were much better than any other setup including ducting. But every system is different.
Just make sure you have somewhere for the air blowing in to exit.
have you tried any other Heatsinks/Fans.....using thermal grease?

lol
u can always put your comp under an airconditin machine
and vuala...
if i can take lower my temp in the room by 5-6 c when it's 35-40 c outside i think it can provide more then 2-3 for your comp
i'm no kiding man.. i bet i can help...i gonna try it soon
had it that way in my old place...window A/C temps never got above 33C
but now with central air temps stay pretty much the same all the time about 35-37
