A S.E.T.I. wu virus?

Up on to yesterday my S.E.T.I.@home was doing great and then it happend. It started after I had finished a wu and was recieving my next one. After the new wu was installed my screen started to disapear in small then larger blotche, I managed to get out of the program so as to shut my system down but it spread to quick for me to close down my O.S. and well my computer went Kaput. I lost all my files and upgrades, also lost all my W.U.s I restored my computer but lost good W.U.s System did have a virus but has been cleaned and seems to be working o.k. I do have an old back up of my system but it is not currrent, my fault there. Could all this have been a virus in a w.u. ? I know this sounds silly but is very serious at least for me, I have to re-install S.E.T.I.@home now. Please input on this for it is very puzzling.:confused:

Maybe ET is now sending viruses to the world to crash all the seti computers :D

Downloading a WU isn't going to give you a virus. Running a program will.

Well I understand that but it all started in my S.E.T.I. files after I recieved the latest w.u., what ever it was it trashed my system. I don't download or run any programs from the internet either, I just crunch and now it feels like e.t. crunch me. I just want to know if this is a problem that has just happend or if it is an old problem. Due to the current events everything has taken a backseat but I want to rectify the situation with S.E.T.I.@home. I really hope this is an isolated incident and not a plauge. I really want to get to crunching a.s.a.p. Please help anybody, where is Superman when you need him.:confused:

As the others stated, you can only get a virus from running a proggy, opening an infected file, etc..
You may have actually been infected for sometime, but it was only activated today. Loads of virii are date dependant.

Well what ever it was, I have never seen a virus like this one. It acted like a virus but yet it was very complex, it also acted like a worm in a way. A little while ago a friend e-mailed me saying he has my S.E.T.I. files among other things. I told him to delete everything and run multi-virus prog. The virus started in my S.E.T.l. file, if any changes happen now with my system restored I will keep all posted. Any Idea what type of infection my computer aquired?:confused:
