Ok I have a problem with my dad's computer I built awhile ago. It keeps locking lately about 30min to 1 hour of uptime. The specs are:

Abit kt7a mobo
tbird 800
256 pc133
10 gig quantem hd
Shuttle TNT2 Vid Card
Soundblaster 128 PCI
Kingston NIC
Sony Floppy
Samsung 52x cdrom
250w psu

The only thing he does on it are wordprocess, use speech recongition (dragon naturally speaking), and listen to music with winamp. He's also duel-booting win98se and win2k. (but he still had the problem when he was in just win98se.)

After it freezes and I reboot it, the temps in the bios are 45c for cpu and 32c for mobo. I dont think temps are a problem. I did download the latest via 4 in 1 drivers and installed them but they didnt seem to help. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

do you think this could be caused by faulty cableing? I replaced the ata100 cable and it seems to be working....im not exactly sure on that tho...suggestions are still welcome.

Temps are a little high for 800MHz nonO/Cd. Check your voltages & that 250W PSU looks too weak for me.

the 12v rail is at 12 but the 5v rail is 4.9....dont think thats too big a problem.

btw the cabling was not the problem.

Test it with a 300W PSU just to make sure if you have one around.
