We got a new computer so we decided we would connect a router to the one that we already have. We hooked it alll up and all ofa sudden we cant both be on the internet at the same time or we will disconnect and on this computer its has a "low" signal at 5.5 mbps. I cant play my games unless my brother is off. Help!!

just to clear things up a bit:
are both comps using wireless?
have you checked the router settings to see how many clients can be connected at once?
can you try using one wireless and one wired? or both wired?
sounds like an IP issue. Also, why not run both computers off the same router? a router on a router is asking for trouble unless you have a huge network and need a segment seperated but still acessable...like a 500 computer farm :)

How far away are the computers from the AP? Also try setting the AP to a different channel. There are a lot of factors that can affect a wireless signal. Im running on wifi right now, with no problems.
like said above 2 routers is asking for trouble unless you know what your doing. Disable DHCP on the wired one and it should act like a switch and that should help and maybe get it to work.

Call your cable provider and ask them how to register the MAC address of your new router with their network.
Then, make sure your DHCP scope inside the router has at least 2 addresses to give out. Should work fine after that.
Wireless doesn't suck at all, it's just not configured right in your case.

Please note that most TOS with ISP's do not allow routers so hopefully you will find a really nice tech that is willing to help you.

Really? I've never had any kind of problem getting help for my router with MediaOne and now Comcast.
My brother has Verizon DSL, and they provide a router with the installation.
unless you want to spend the time to set it up correctly unhook the wired router and set up the wireless router as the only router.
To set it up correctly set the wired like it was before with DHCP on and make sure it is working. Then before you hook up the wireless router to the network plug a computer into it and go to the web admin. Now change the addy it uses to reach the web admin so it does not interfere with you contacting your wired router when they are both hooked up. Then turn off DHCP in the wireless router. OK now you are ready to hook it up to the network. Hook a regular cat5 cable from a regular port on the wired router to a regular port on the wireless router (NOT THE WAN PORT). now make sure your wireless is working with the computers you want to connect wirelessly. Now turn on all the security settings like WEP, Diable SSID broadcast, and MAC filtering.
I think I got it all but I might have missed something since it has been a while since I had mine configured like that. Good Luck:D

I will have to agree with the poster that a lot of ISP's will tell you to bug off if you ask any kind of question about a router. It used to be a lot worse before blaster though. There are still quite a few ISP's who make it against there TOS to hook up a router so you can have multiple computers.
Provided routers are a different story.
verizon provided westell dsl modems also act as routers if configured right....Crappy routers, but still routers.
