View Full Version : CAK38 Fan Grill?
If you take your fan grill off, will it provide better airflow to you
cpu? I think I read that somewhere. Thanks.

yes it does allow better air flow
but not that much
i did take mine off but if u decide to do that watch out for your fingers and never fiddle with it when the comp is on
i got my finger caught in it twice
Thanks Sky for the reply. I'm taking it off right now.

you'd better be really carefull with your fingers if you remove the grill. my finger hasn't met a delta yet but it has gone through a low rpm 120fan and that did hurt (and the fan broke but i glued it back :) ). those 120's i have are rated at about 3200 rpm so you can imagine what will happen if you get your finger into the delta which rotates at about 7000 rpm. i wouldn't risk that just for 1 or 2 cfm more. it ain't worth it. but if you try it just be careful.
Thanks for all the replies about the safety factors. I got some
positive results with it off, but since I run with my case off, (and
my son is walking now) I put it back on.

I try to run grills on any open fan surfaces.... it's a small price to pay for safety, especially with high RPM 60 MM fans.
SK6's don't have a convenient way to mount a grill though... every day passes makes me more nervous about running that sucker without a grill of any sort.

I don't think pain alone would describe my experience with the delta...I was feeling around in my case to check temps, and couldn't directly see my CAK cause my PSU sits on top of it. I had taken the grill off because I thought it was pointless, then "CRACK"! and my hand instinctively flies out of the case...my friend was laughing his ass off, but my finger was bleeding pretty badly :(
It was only running at like 6700 rpm on that mobo, too, now it runs at 7400 on my Soyo Dragon, I'd hate to think how bad it would be if it happened now!
i got annoying noise coming out of the pc once. and found out that the wire are touching the fan!
tire up the loose bits of wire to solve the problem.

getting ur fingers in a 5,400rpm fan is bad enuf
i can't imagine u guyz having ur fingers in a delta...
and to tell the truth i want to try
but i can't afford a CAK 38 and Delta
:o
i wonder if anyone lost a finger or two...

I just took my fan grill off today but I think for safety it should be left on.
although some people do work in their comps while they are switched on they shouldn't but thats their decision.
My delta spins at 7400RPM and is noisy so I have put it on 7v that slows it down and makes it less dangerous!!
Wires can get cought in the fan and if they do you risk striping them, and this wouldn't be wise it could blow your mobo!!
The decrease of my cpu's temp was to good, I had to take it off again. It idles at 42c compared to 47c. I rearranged all my cables in my case with tie wraps, and what a difference.
