Which would be better, the rig in my sig, or a 3000winchester on a msi k8n neo platinum 2?

The 3000 Winchester would perform better prettymuch across the board. But the difference will be very slight unless the 3000 was overclocked.

i just went from an AXP-M at ~2.9ghz to an A64 at 2.7ghz (for now), and it feels a lot faster, and things like video render a lot faster.

alrighty, thanks for the info. Is the msi k8n neo and the 3000 winchester a good combination?? I really cant afford anything to much more. Also will a fortron 530 be enough to power it all?

That mobo, cpu, and psu is about one of the best combos you can get (for AGP that is). You could also look into the OCZ powerstream PSU's as they are also very solid. I personally like the OCZ powerstream 470w:)

The nice thing about the OCZ's vs. the Fortron is that the OCZ psu's have "PCI-Express ready" cabling (as in they already have the necessary connections for SATA, 20 pin 12v power (with adapter), and PCI-Express connections) so if you upgrade to PCI-Express later (which will most likely happen if you get a new video card or motherboard). And don't worry, it will work fine with that MSI K8N neo2 platinum even though its AGP;)

one more quick question, is my bh5 going to run even half way decent in the msi k8n neo platiunum2?

I'm pretty sure BH5 runds fine in the board.
I don't remember hearing many complaints anywhere, and it wouldn't get many recommendations if it didn't work with premium OCing RAM like BH5 ;)
I think your biggest problem is you'll need a DDR booster or Vdimm mod, as the Neo2 won't go higher then 2.8 (or is it 2.9) Vdimm.

whats the safe vdimm for bh5, because i know boosters can go up to like 3.9. Is that high safe?

3.6v I'd say. I don't know if more is safe, but it is doable on my ch-5. Max I have tried is 3.7 volts, but the board maxed out it's fsb and timings with 3.55.

I'd definately try to swing the 3200+ winchester for a few bucks more. The 3000+ is limited to that 9x multi and it can paint you into a corner. With a 10x multi you'll have more options and likely end up with a better max overclock.
