I don't care what the speaker companies claim, there is no way that those Klipsh speakers have a true subwoofer (the same also holds true for Bose). In order to really get that deep bass that you can feel, you've GOT to move a lot of air. A small driver like a 5.25" or 6.5" just simply can't do that unless you're talking about a VERY small space (like, say, a broom closet MAYBE). I would say 8-10" is sort of the minimum for a quality subwoofer that can start reaching down to those lower octaves. A 12" or 15" is better still.

Gee man this is for computer for christ sake. You're talking about hardcore stuff man. My new homethreater can actually sake the house if i want it to. (F1-homethreater with KSW-10 (10") from klipsch)
But no i dont want to sit near it. I will probably go deaf b4 30 lol.
To me i found logitech Z-560 (4.1) has LOTs of bass. I actually has to turn the bass down. From many reviews, they say it produce more deep bass than klipsch 4.1
Well I have the Velodyne CHT-10. It pleases me.

LOL. Well, he DID say that he wanted lots of thump he can feel. You can find a decent HT sub for around $150 or so (possibly less) that he should be able to hook to his line outs for that extra whump. Or he could go to somewhere like Parts Express (http://www.partsexpress.com) and purchase a kit to build his own sub.

This is what I did. I bought a philips FW-C777 stereo system that has a USB link on it. Talking about BIG BASS. It also has enviroment settings and other settings (too much to get into). This system,I think, will beat about any sound card install.

there is an amplifier that pushes 250watts RMS into 8ohm (what the logitechs are). The power source alone cost 300$.

First off, the common misconception that wattage has SOOO much to do with how loud it can get, or how much air it can displace. This is not always the case. As power consumption is logarhithmic (spelling?) the 5500's sub being 188w rms is not much more feel than the 55w klipsch that zabomb showed. Also, with an enclosure so small, yea it can thump, but when it comes to low frequencies, it will not perform that well.
I built my own subwoofer box for my car, and will do so again for my lil HT setup, as i feel i have that much more control over what I want. If you want to settle for a premade kit that sounds ok to some, great to others, by all means. But for me, i know i am not a bass head, and i generally like to have the option to get it REALLY LOUD if i want to, open. So just about everything I do is kinda overkill, as my lil 8" sony sub may be able to compare with the 10" in the logitechs, it is good for a premade system.
Just a side note, with the satelittes being so small, the subwoofer has to make up for all the midrange AS WELL AS the lower frequencies. So you will be missing out on alot. My honest opinion.

there is no replacement for displacement. Buhammot i was disagreeing with the actual power output. i tried finding the power consumption for the unit......but oddly it is not listed anywhere on the logitech site.

May I ask why not just get a real subwoofer and use that? The bass will be clearer and have more feel to it. You can also get a way more powerful HT or music sub for $200 then you can with the logitechs, they are bass bloated and the bass is sloppy, but it's your money.

you could get a sub and amp off partsexpress.com for about 50 bucks or less that can handle 150-100w then build or buy a box from like walmart or something (car audio, look for a sealed box) put the sub in it and plug it into ur computer using a Y connecter. You'll have stuff shaking off your desk and your window flexing in no time. Probably won't cost u more then 150 either.. or for me, it costed about 80 because i got stuff from ebay.

OMG Parts Express!!!
I haven't seen any thing from them since they were mail order only. A friend of mine and I used to get speakers and passive crossovers from them back in like '91 and build enclosures for friends....
They used to have 10" woofers that had a clear poly cone, and we used to wire power sensitive lights in behind them so when the bass hits they would flash and make a little light show....
OMG Pyle speakers, LOL :attn: ROFLMAO
Ahh those were the good old days!

get a set of Z-680's. They absolutely rock the house down. You can almost feel your heart stop when listening to rap at full volume. LOL. *boom* 'something garbled' *boom* 'blunts' *boom* 'drugs' *boom* 'sex' *boom* 'cop killa' *boom* 'playa hata' *boom*
had a friend make a claim about my speakers i still don't know if it is true or not. He was coming to my house one day, and about 1/2 a mile away, while he was still driving to my house, he heard this rumbling, and explosion. Then heard this awesome rock music (at the time, i think it was some dvd i was watching, can't remember which one). He said that my system was so loud, he could hear it half a mile away clearly.
i think its got something to do with the mountains here.... one of hte neighbors 1/4 a mile away has a rockband... they play at night, and it wakes everyone up for a mile around... cause we can hear it like we are right there listening to them.
my neighbors hear me play drums through my basement submerged underground..and through two other houses, and we've all got brick houses

i have a totally ghetto system, but it pounds. its 2 rockford year 2000 He2 subs on a rockford (also 2000) 800a4 amp powered by my antec 400 watt smart power and 3 other AT PSUs all paralleled to try to feed that beast. the subs are in some old late 80s pioneer boxes, not sing the mids and highs in there. and my mid / highs are a set of pioneer car 6 1/2 coaxials and a couple unlabeled 3 by 9s that have plugs liek a stock pontiac's speakers. (im referencing my experience with an 89 sumbird)
its totally ghetto but it shakes the hell out of this whole trailor park.
