View Full Version : Will an AGP8 card work in a AGP4 board ?
A friend of mine wants to upgrade his GFX card but was told that a AGP8 card wont work in an AGP4 board. I know a Board will adjust to a lower card but will it work the other way round ?
Cheers

Works for me. I use a GeForce 6800GT in my motherboard that only supports up to AGP 4X.
Short answer: It will work.
Long answer: Yes, 8x cards are backwards compatible with 4x boards, and 8x boards can use 4x cards. There isnt a great deal of difference between 4x and 8x anyway, in terms of real performance gain. The only time AGP cards become problematic is when you have an older 3.3V based card or board you are trying to use with a newer 1.5V based board or card.
