View Full Version : Best Heatsink+Fan?
I am a extreme newbie in the overclocking world but learning very fast. 45degrees celsius for a normal unoverclocked fan seems a little hot. So what I want to know is what is the best Heatsink+fan out there? The loundness doesnt matter. Im gunna get my system as cool as it gets without overclocking and once I have it as low as I can get it then ill overclock. What do ya think?:D
Well if noise doesn't matter then it would have to be either an sk6 or Swiftech and 80mm delta fan :)
Have a look here (http://www.overclock.co.uk) they have quite a wide range of coolers.
You say noise doesn't matter but have you ever sat listening to a delta for long periods of time, it is incredabally irritating.

before you go out and waste some money I suggest you really think about water cooling, I spent my money on the sk6 and a lot of intakes and other things for air cooling, but it isn't worth it, will always be load and has many more probs, watercooling also has many probs but will cool quieter and more consistent, less relient on room temps or case cooling. It isn't as hard as many people say. Also you'll be able to sleep knowing you have good cooling.
Just my run-on $0.02.

Good point, with air cooling we are getting to the point where we can't really cool much better without silly fans (deltas for example) as unless someone starts making affordable cvd diamond sinks then there isn't really any where to go from copper, silver is only slightly better and too expensive. Read some of the guides on the front page on watercooling, they should tell you all you need to know to set up your own water cooling setup.
but isnt water cooling expensive?

It can be if you buy expensive stuff :)
If you shop around a bit you should be able to pick up most components quite cheaply, get a heater core from a scrap yard instead of a radiator, also don't buy a more powerful pump than you need. As for the waterblock I recomend either a danger den, or if you feel adventurous you could build your own, say from an old heatsink. But do consider it as an option, price up a water system for your system and if it's too expensive go for a good heatsink instead, but don't blame me if after a while of using a noisy fan based cooling system you wish you had gone the extra expense of watercooling.

yeh you are a newbie, i hope your fan isn't overclocked, choosing the heatsink depends on the chip, get a sk6 for a amd and a alumium one (duno what it is called) for a intel

Yeah but watercooling is too much of a hassle for a non-hardcore overclocker like me...
do you link the water to the tapan the sink or just make them cycle around in the pc?
The Swiftech 462 is it. It'll cool your chip better than the rest in air cooling. Water cooling should be geared towards people with extremely high ambient temps I think in normal situations but if you like extreme cooling then it might be for you.

personally i strongly recommend water cooling
it is one of the quickest way to keep ur cpu cool and quiet
p.s. u should think what will happen with ur pc if the water leaks from the water cooling system b4 u get the kit.
water go though a cycle or water go in from tap and out to sink?
