hi.. i`m a little confused.. and mad.. i bought the second copy of windows XP wich i copy'd onto the HDD... and my cd's were at home when i tryed installing xp... at certain files... it says it cant copy it.. allthough i installed that copy of xp at least 15 times...
same thing with the second copy... on some pc's it says one file cant be copyd.. on others it says something else...
(an example) on my friends pc... it gets stuck at such a file but does not move on... we have tryed 3 different copys at his pc... none work, windows 98 freezes.. in DOS it works fine..so the guy bought a new motherboard...what joy.. new errors.. still cant get a sys up... could it be the CPU?
you know i saw some twisted sht in my life.. but this just made me brake :bang head

and your loading each instance from the Cd correct, if you not, then it makes sense, because if you could copy it right from the cd, then it would make sense to borrow someones and then copy it and the key and then bam, no need to by the software.

Are you using the same CD drive? Maybe the drive is going bad.

I've actually had this happen to me before but I can't remember what was causing it.
I would try a different CD-Drive though:

It wouldn't hurt to test with other components if you have them. Or how about the hard-drive?

i formatted the HDD, repartitioned it.
here is what i did, i took out the guy's HDD, threw a xp image on it.. and booted up with my PC.. works fine.. then i changed it to the guys pc.. and surprise... it freezes at startup.
and i tryed installing from CD`rom too... its interesting and unexplainable how xp locks up at the exact same files over and over again, both with a german xp version and an english one... well.. i`ll wait to see if it is the CPU.. maybe it loops somewhere wich causes the error

I once had a problem where my installation of Win2000 got corrupted and wouldn't boot. Then I tried reinstalling off of my (fully legit) CD, and couldn't even get through the install process without getting a read error, though I tried multiple times.
I replaced the CD drive, the HDD, and the motherboard and still got the same problem each time. I eventually figured out it was one of my RAM sticks that was the problem. Fortunately it has a lifetime warranty :)
In any event, you don't have to install XP off of the CD for it to work. I install it on to our machines using a remote installation server on our network and it works just fine.

RAM?
damn... i got an utility that tested ram from DOS... and after 8 hours i shut it off... it had found no errors... but just to be sure i will replace it...
thx for the tip...
I had an old box at work I was trying to install Fedora on. It kept saying my disks were bad, I went through 3 cd drives and no luck. I put the Fedora disks on a new pc and it installed like a champ, no errors whatsoever. Never found out the problem. Ram could have been the culprit.

Same problem traced to RAM as well.
