View Full Version : Keep losing internet connection on winXP pro please help!!

hi guys i installed winXP pro last night and everything was working flawlessly then all of a sudden the internet just stopped worlking on my rig..i am on a cable connection and i know it wasnt the connection because i am typing this on a laptop plugged into a router plugged into the same connection..so i reinstalled windows and it fixed the internet problem...only to come turn on the computer today and have no internet again! can someone please help me i am really stumped and mad!

*edit* well now i went in and disabled tcp/ip then reinabled it and now its working..so i think there is a problem with it being turned off some how even though it is ckecked...ughh

*bump* well it is still happening..and every time to fix it i have to go into network connections disbable the network then reinable it to get it to work..has anyone else had this problem?

Did your nic work previously to the XP install?

can anyone tell me how to uninstall tcp/ip i need to uninstall and reinstall it because i think it may be the source of my problem..thanks in advance

I had the same thing happen to me with Win2k....

Do not use any sleep/hybernate modes, they only provoke it.

I fixed mine by replacing the NIC and reinstalling Win2k.

Before you go out and buy a new NIC, try downloading and installing proper drivers (windows only uses generic ones, or even previous drivers from Win9x)

thank you su root for the advice but after all the thinking and tweaking and after 3 reinstalls of windows and1 format it all turned out that zonealarm pro was the culprit! hehe oh well it is fixed now :)

Zonealarm did it? I replaced that after the whole deal when it started to conflict with something... Well... now I know my other netcard is good..
