I installed a 64 into a chaintech vnf3-250 the other day. There was not a clearly indicated pin 1 on the board. I installed the cpu so that if one looks at the motherboard with the cpu socket on the top half, the upper left corner is socket 1 (arrow on cpu top).

Was this correct?

if the cpu fits in the slot so that the locking arm can go down, that it is installed correctly, there is no way to incorrectly install a cpu, it physically won't fit.

Look at the bottom of the CPU, and the top of the socket. See how there are missing pins? You can put it in wrong, but, its really hard to do. Its called a ZIF socket for a reason. If the CPU doesn't drop in eaisly, you are not putting it in correctly.
