I have a 300 gig maxtor that has 137gb partitioned and the rest is not partitioned, but how do i partition it? I need to use something free. I would have reformatted to partition it all, but service pack 1 has to be installed before i recognizes anything above 137gb

uusing windows XP pro or home?
if pro go to
control panel / adminitrative tools / computer management - find your drive and parition away.
Try using Windows or use a formatting utility from a hard disk manufacturer (Maxtor: MaxBlast 3 (http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software Downloads/ATA Hard Drives&downloadID=57)).
If you want to install Windows on a partician greater than 137GB, FIRST use a utility from a hard disk manufacturer (or use a sutable substitute utility) to format a partician greater than 137GB.
Also check BIOS settings.
