Yea, my philps pc woofers blew up today.. i decided to upgrade from 40rms total to 90rms each :D, worked really nice for about 2 weeks, then the dust cap popped off one of them, no big deal, easy fix, then the cone completely blew off the other.. so i guess its time to replace them.. hm..

anyways, i found some good stuff on partsexpress, some goldwood 6.5"(i don't know if thats any good) and some other stuff that would only cost about 20-30bucks +shipping, which isn't bad. the power handling was about 90w or more on some of them, which is great. I'm not sure if i should go with them, i was thinking about gettting something off ebay for the same price if its better.. I'm not really looking into a lot of sound quality (i don't want them to sound horrible either) but i'm looking more into powerhandling and spl up until i build a box for my two JL 10"subs for my room. I know a lot of u guys buy stuff from partsexpress so i thought i'd ask u first ;)

Just a few questions here. What is the enclosure they are going into? What is powering them and whats the budget :D. PE has some really nice under 7" drivers but if the enclosure size is flexible you can get some larger drivers with more power handling etc.

what i want to know is how did you not notice the distortion when you were pushing your woofers so far?

there was no distortion what so ever. from what i know about sepeakers and have experianced is that distortion or clipping caused by amps will cause thermal damage and melt the voice coil, but this BLEW apart from too much power. This is less thermal and more mechanical because the coil is dissipating heat just fine, but the glue on everything couldn't hold so it all popped out.. These are like 7 year old speakers, which might be the problem.. I've give 15w generic speakers 90w and they took it for hours up until the paper cone caught fire because the coil got locked in one position (forced beyond its xmax.. ) Weird thing is I didn't have the volume very high either.. maybe half way up, it was pretty loud, but no way was it clipping, the gain was set right and i'm using a line driver from my pc to make sure of it. The enclouser is pretty small though.. i can go up to 7" though and seal up the other holes. I already have larger drivers, i have two 10" subs, but they will not cover the midbass. :-/
but my budget is low..
i'm still saving up for either a Memphis Mojo or Adire Brahma for my car so i can go completly death.. so yea, i was planning on spending 30-40bucks for a pair.. i know that isn't a lot.. i might go with 75w and set the gain lower.. again, i'm not looking for sq, just spl :) thx guys

If its SPL then i would jam the largest driver I could in there. Bass is all about moving air and the larger the cone the more you can move (also high Xmax helps). I just quickly searched around PE and found some that might work.

(one of these would totally rock)

(then theres the ULTRA cheapo solution)

(MCM has a few cheap 6 /12" drivers, this one isnt too bad. But the quality usually isnt the same as PE)

i hate when that happens!

here a little tip for you. dont buy any jap speakers. dont by any phillips products. they have great R+D but manufacture sucks the big one. they are a development company that is on the cutting edge but production is *****. they partner with magnavox so stay away from them too. :burn:

yea, i know what u mean, i've had my fair share of bad phillips/magnavox products. I generally like to stick with american made products for audio. but they weren't bad at all though, in terms of quality, but just not loud enough.
