For awhile now my Radeon 9800 NP has been lagging, I reinstalled the OS and Drivers and it seemed to work as games started playing smoothly again.

But after I played a game of CS:S for example, and quit out and tried to reply the game, the game would be extremely laggy still - the only solution is to reboot.

Also I've been able to tell from the a flash video if the card is lagging, as before I play CS:S or any graphical intense game flash runs really smooth, when I play CS:S and quit out, the flash will be laggy. - Does anyone know what is causing this ?

The card isn't overclocked at all.

Have you checked your system out for viruses, or spyware? I know that you're on a fresh OS install, but this is worth a shot.

Do other games cause this problem, or only CS:S?

Try running any of the 3DMark programs (www.futuremark.com) looped for several hours, does the program start to lag while it is running, or only after you have run it, and then closed it?

Which video card driver version are you using, and how hot does the rear of the card feel, right behind the heatsink, to the touch?

What are your full system specifications (including your power supply, and it's manufacturer)?

See if setting the game's priority higher will help at all. Just do ctrl-alt-del when you are running the game.
