Hi everyone,
I have been reading the forums for a few weeks and just would like to ask a question I'm not really sure about.
Here's an background. I am building a Media center, that will be used for watching t.v, recording live t.v., and I also wanted the person i'm building it to game on it.
I have bought the Antec Aria case with 300 watt powersupply. I had a friend who works at ATI and got me an 9800 all in wonder pro(it was so cheap I could not refuse, 50% off brand new). I also have an ASUS P4P800-VM(its a micro ATX board).
I plan to include a duel layer DVD burner, 1 gig of ram, an 200 gig sata drive with 16 mb cache, and an P4, 3.0E 1MB cache.
My co-workers told me this would be fine(their ibm hardware techs), but a few workers at a local computer store told me that this will not work. They said the power used by the video card and cpu would be too high and either cause instablity or burn the system.
They suggested I buy a new case, or a new motherboard(so i can go for an AMD). the problem is, I bought the case and motherboard already, and if there's an way, i would not like to replace anything.
What do you all think? Is this stuff too much for an 300 watt power supply(my techie friends said it would work, but the fan may be noisy since the power supply is being worked. But according to them an Antec powersupply can handle this alot better then others).
I am not sure, what I should do, I really want to get a cpu with a 1mb cache(because I heard it really boosts performence for games) but don't want have to replace the case or mobo to do so.
Also, I am assuming this media center will remain one for 3 years straight(although unlikly I am just assuming worst case senerio).
Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for the long post.
