Ok recently I backed up my cousin's files because he wanted to format his comp because of a few problems with windows..anyways now he has a fresh new XP isntalled PC with SP2 and I also have XP instealled. Before all the format the network connection was working (I was able to find his comp on network so I can backup his files) but right now I'm unable to find his cmop on the network..and I ran the network setup wizzard like 20 times..it just doesn't work..I tried same workgroup name..and it still doesn't work..
Something that is weird is that when I'm running the network setup wizzard on my computer or other computers in my house (other than his, all using XP + SP2), we will all get this:
http://img13.exs.cx/img13/8831/untitled6tr.jpg
which I believe that is what it supposed to be...but when I'm running the wizzard on his comp..insetead of that coming up.it comes up with other thing with 3 options that I'll have to selecet what connection does he uses (Connecting through gateway, connecting through internet directly, etc).
Btw I can find all computers on the network expect his..I don't know what is wrong with this..if anyone would be I'll be appreciate your help thanks a lot.

Well follow the steps on ures then it should say to make a floppy disk. go ahead and do it. then run that on his comp and that should be it. that should work.
have you installed the drivers from the modem (as you say he connects directly) onto the formatted hdd? also does the modem have an USB connect? or is it a cat5?
I would not bother with the wizard.
On your cousin's computer make sure it is getting a valid IP address for your network. (open a command prompt window and type IPCONFIG, it will usually be something in the 192.168.x.x range for a private network). If it is something like 169.254.x.x then the computer cannot access the DHCP server and that will need to be addressed. I am assuming you are running a broadband router and it is acting as a DHCP server. If that is not the case, please fully describe how your network is setup.
If it has a valid IP address that you can ping from the other computers on the network, then check the Windows Firewall settings. It is enabled by default with SP2 and you have to specifically choose to allow File and Print Sharing as an exception. I would check this first, as I think it is most likely the problem.
It's a problem with your cousin's settings if you can see every other computer. Make sure he has a 192.168.x.x ip address and that your workgroup name is the same. Also check the firewall like kct2 said. I'd stay away from the wizard though. I've had nothing but problems with it.

I had this problem lastnight as well.
That crap dont work.
In the end I just beamed the files (5 gigs or so) over msn messenger. Took about 20 minutes.
It took an hour or so of fiddling before I gave up.

No that does not work, I tired it many times with different options. As I mentioned on my post, his comp will not comes up like mine.

No he does not connect directly, we share a cable modem on a routher and a hub as a switch.
This is how it works:
My cousin and his wife's comp are connected to the routher and my comp, laptop, and my other cousin's comp down the basement are connected to a switch, which all of those are working and I can see all the computers on the routher and switch expect my cousin's upstair, but he could use the internet just fine.
I would not bother with the wizard.

It is getting a valid IP adress as 192.168.x.x and I have the firewall disabled and allowed file and pirinter sharing.
Btw right now I can find his computer on the network..but I'm unable to access it....it gives me something like this..

stop being lazy and take his hard drive out and put it in yours, ten times quicker, ten times more reliable and ten times easier!

I know about that..but I don't want to do this forever...because we do share lots of files and programs.. -_-

That last error message looks like it has to do with file sharing settings, but I've also known WinXP to be iffy when it comes to file & printer sharing.
