View Full Version : I hate my high-speed internet provider!

I wake up this morning, excited that three 600 pointers at my house would be finished by morning.
i go to the computer, and click on my stanford stats link... and my internet doesn't work. I check my FAHLOG, and for the last 5 hours, all 3 of them have been trying to connect to send.
I go check my router and cable modem, and all of the lights are on. I check the router, and it's seeing the cable modem and all the addresses. I refresh it, and it times out. Seems as though the cold has messed with my high-speed internet provider AGAIN this year.
it seems that every year, when it's cold (Gee... Buffalo, cold? Never) my high-speed internet decided not to work, even when it's working. It's gotta be my neighborhood, because my neighbors have problems too. We all complain, and nothing ever gets done. The same thing every time. A guy gets on the pole, seems like hes doing something... comes back to the house, and feeds us a line of bull****, like "A wire was loose" or "I tweaked something"
So, now I'm sitting here with what would have been a record breaking day for me, waiting for 1,800 points to go through!

haha, I had that happen on 2 600 pointers to me, too. It tried to connect for a whole night. I am always having to reset the cable modem this time of year

Don't anticipate. I have found that when I do certain things like count the points before they finish, something always happens. I'm still sitting here with my first 600pt wu and it won't send. I have done many more since then with no problem (except one I couldn't leave alone and lost while experimenting). Just let them fold. Try not to think about it. The Gremlins read your thoughts. ;)

Update: My internet must have went up while I was at work. Looking at the logs, it sent the WUs out 3 hours ago. I have yet to see them show up on any stats page! They better not have disappeared!

Buy a new cable modem if you are on the internet with old docsis 1.0 or 1.1.
I upgraded to a docsis 2.0 and it is reliable, fast, and have yet to get a single disconnect with it either with video games or my computer. Also your modem may be too hot, this rarely happens but put a fan in front of it for 10 minutes and see if it makes it run more reliably.

Its a surfboard 1100a. To be honest, I think we've had it for well over 6 or 7 years. $5/month to rent it X 12 months X 6 years = $360!!!!
I think I'll go to Circuit City and buy one for $80 TODAY. It never occurs to you until someone mentions it, to replace something...
Oh, BTW.
I AM HITTING A NEW PPD RECORD TODAY! Right now, EOC shows me at 1,659 on the day, at 166,546. Stanford is showing: 167,900
That will put me up to my new daily high of: 3,013!
Maybe that will put me up above 2,000 PPD average! Another milestone :)
Congrat's on the triple 600 pointer's and the new PPD average.

Docsis 2.0 is industry standard so remember that when you are doing your shopping i recommend newegg.com or bestbuy's $20.00 giftcard deaal with purchase of a D-LINK cable modem.

Docsis 2.0 came out within the last year and a half ago so I am guessing you have docsis 1.0 or 1.1.
Ugh. I feel ya man.
I remember we had power gone for 18 hours (they could have fixed it in an hour, but they decided a block is less important than a neighborhood, even though the difference is the same), so we get power back on at like 9, I IMMEDIATELY turn on the computer and find the internet's broken. No biggie, except it stays off AGAIN. Folding? Yeah. Really bored? You bet.
Then, to top off my horrible series of events, I'm in the MIDDLE of watching 24 when all the lights go off and the TV turns off.
"*4 letter word*!!11111"
So I had to go to sleep that night with 0 power and no 24 because of the damn trees.
Winter sucks, although I love the snow.

Same here.
Right over here too.
It also seems as if the intercept times really float around a LOT, some days it's looking like 800 to OCAU, others it's looking like 1,200. Strange.
