well, i haven't seen a difference between my FOP38 and the SK6...if any1 has been reading my posts, i had to go to a chrome orb for a week because of a clip breakage on my FOP...so i bought a SK6. I am using my Delta off my FOP to cool the HS, and have a 120cfm 120mm fan intake an 80mm exhaust and a exhaust blower...still my temps are about 10C over case temp at full load...normally getting to about 40 to 43C depending on ambient, see my sig for info on system...any help on cooling it even more would help

EEEN-teresting....

I saw about a 5 to 6 C difference in load temps after I installed my SK6, from what I previously got with an FOP32 and a ducted 36 CFM Sunon fan... maybe try lapping the SK6? are you using arctic silver II?

Those are still pretty good temps...although you should be getting lower with the SK6 over the FOP, obviously...

Looks like a few people are not getting the performance they were expecting from the SK6. Could the quality of the manufacturer be falling off?

Mine needed some lapping before I could install it... machining marks could be felt easily by running a fingernail over the HS base.... so I'd be easily convinced that the manufacturing tolerances are being lowered so they can produce more SK6's to keep up with demand.... I still think it's a dang good HSF though.

I have an SK-6, that along with other micro-fin heatsinks, I have been testing with my Hood Chute. The SK-6 I got was a freebie, so I don't want to seem ungrateful, but the solder work joining the fins to the base is imcomplete. At one end of each of the rows, you can see the solder has flowed evenly beneath the fins. On the other end of each row, there is no solder and if you rake the fins with your fingernail, you can hear them rattle on the end with no solder in sight. The SK-6 I have did not perform as well as some of the other micro-sin sinks and based upon the numerous results I have read about from others, I'd say mine is lacking in quality control. Yours may be also if an FOP beats it. I also have an FOP and though it is a nice implementation of an aluminum HSF, there is no way it should beat an SK-6.

Fins not completely soldered donīt sound like quality to me,
I personally would wait for the new Alpha to arrive. Alpha has always been very big in quality

well 10 degrees over case temp sounds about right to me.... try taking the side of the case off, temp should drop a fiar bit.....

you gotta remember that the heatsink needs cool air! a warm case will mean even hotter CPU temps

make the 80mm intake and 120 exaust I remember reading that 10-15% more going out than coming in I know it sounds wrong but thats what I remember reading I will go on a search to find it

my sk6 came lapped already...i don't know if the company i bought it from did it, or the manufacturer did it, but it was almost like glass. as for the moving the 120mm to exhaust, i don't like that idea...i will be pushing almost double out as i am in...i again only saw a like 2 to 3C difference and that is only at idle

Variation on idle temps isn't really something to go with when compairing high end HSFs. It will be the load temps that would show the noticable difference.
