View Full Version : Amd question L1 bridges?
Yesterday I took my processor out and reconnected the l1 bridges to see if i could get 133 or higher fsb. Previous to this i couldn't do 133 at anything more than 8.5 multi.
So, after reconnecting with a pensil and playing around a bit, I booted at 750mhz. Once there i changed the multiplier slowly up ward with the bus at 133. I reached 10.5x133 with out a problem.
I even managed 145x10.5 1522mhz.
Now, the problem. If i leave the system running at 10.5x133 it runs along happy, until i do a power off. Then it will not boot. I get the black screen. Sometimes the bios resets and it will then boot at 750 again. Other times it requires a bios reset via jumper. Voltage 1.80 or 1.85 doesn't matter. IO 3.40.
Question. Why won't the system reboot after a cold shutdown? Is it because my bridges are not connected well enough? Temps are low, 40s C. Even smaller overclocks fail now after a reboot. Such as 1200 or 1300.
The nice thing is, that the fsb will run 145 at 10x. eheh.
I've got the memory timing at 222.
Could this be because of using a pensil to connect the bridges?
Any advice or comments would be helpful.
thank you.
I had exactly the same problem as you. I bet you checked to see if it was you ram, video card or even if your mobo really had the KT133A chipset(well I did). It's the L1s. You should try using conductive paint to connect them. I used a conductive ink pen just to rule out the possibility that the connection was faulty & sure enough it was. You got a great chip to start of with & let's hope that your problem is as simple as that. Is that pricey swifty really that good? I've been thinking of ordering a CAK38 or the SK6 but there are a few threads that show a minimal improvement on their old sinks so maybe a 462 is the way to go.

For me it sounds more like a Ram problem, have you tried, to set your Ram settings to the lowest possible, and see if this solves the problem..

I didnt know it was my birthday but thanks anyway & the drinks are on me:D
to be completely honest i have not run other coolers so i don't know if it is really as good as they say.
I must admit that it seems to keep everything nice and cool for my machine. It's got a sanyo fan on it. so it is not that loud.
at 1000 mhz the machine is running 37c loaded. box temp is 25c
at 1430mhz i was doing about 44c loaded with fah.
Not bad.
:)
Have you tried the conductive paint yet?
No sir.
I will get some defogger kit stuff tomorrow and give it a try.
I haven't had a chance to play with it today.
I'd love to see this chip ziping along at 1.4 again at 145 fsb

I don't think it's a ram issue because I've been running at 145 or 150 fsb stable before i started playing with the pencil lines.
Also I have decent ram. Hopefully with defogger kit will get this chip up and running at a good speed.
Now I really think it's the L1s if you have no problems with the RAM. The easiest way to paint it is to mask out what you don't want the paint to get on.
I'm gonna give it a try tomorrow.
I'll post the results. :)
thanks for the advice.

i think itz the L1 bridge as well
cux i had exactly the same problem b4
i had no more problems when i reconnected my L1 bridge, but i used pencil...
try using pencil to reconnect so u wouldn't waste $
well not a waste, but helps u save $
hehe
WEll, i used some of the defogger kit and a lot of trembling hands.
Try to do it after training at the gym. Doh.
I have it done now. here is a bench.
1.80 volts 3.40 io.
Nice!!! Now try Sandra & see if it's stable. I got to 1.4GHz too but I got to get better cooling to stay there.

itz quite nice
itz a t-bird 1ghz u have there right ?
try running 3dmark 2001 !!
yes. it's an axia y 1 gig.
it's running at 1466 at home right now with folding all day. I want to see if it will crash or not. I'm near voltage max. 1.825
I'm liking the overclock because the pci and agp buses are at the correct speeds. 33/66
should i drop the multi down and boost up the fsb to 145?
I'll run prime for a bit tonight to see if it is stable.
All I can say is "NICE"!!!!!!
