Its a terrible pulsing noise, with some static. It varies with mouse movement as well. It does it with a few different sets of speakers too.
The sound card is the onboard one, but it also did it with an older soundblaster Live! card... any ideas? something wrong with the mobo?
it's really annoying... speakers can only be like 1/4 of the way up to enjoy them, and thats just too quiet for my games...
