I will be replacing my retail heatsink with an SK6 from www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com)
33 bucks. Okay so how do I do it? Do I need to take the motherboard out? I don't have a mobo tray :( How do I ensure that my CPU doesn't burn out? (If it burns I'm not gonna be able to buy another one) :( Correct me if I am wrong on the steps...
1. Take out mobo (I don't know what to put it on:()
2. Scrape off thermal pad on the cpu with razor or plastic card.
3. Rub off all of the thermal pad with isop. alcohol and cotton swab
4. Apply Arctic Silver 2 to the core (thin layer) don't use fingers
5. Put on assembled SK6 and align it with the lugs
6. Put on one side of the clip
7. Use flat head screwdriver to push the clip on to other lug
8. Check that the bottom of the heatsink is flat
9. See if it makes good contact with core.
10. BOOT
Am I right? Anything I need to know before I do it?

Ahhhh! Step 2 is NOT scrape off the thermal pad on teh CPU!! There might be a thermal pad on the SK6, and you can scrape THAT off, but don't touch the cpu! Other than that, looks ok. Though you don't really need to do steps 8 & 9. You might want to quickly check temps in BIOS before you let it boot to make sure your temps aren't skyrocketing...and make sure you plug in the fan, too ;)
edit: You don't really need to take out the motherboard...you can just lay your case flat on it's side and push the clips on from there. Sometimes it's a good idea to take out your ram modules depending on how close they are to the CPU. And another good tip I saw elsewhere was to wrap the head of the screwdriver in electric tape so you don't damage your motherboard if you slip.

Well how do I get the thermal pad stuff off of the cpu? I used a thermal pad from the old heatsink so it will be stick to the core!

Have you checked that? You can clean that off the CPU with alcohol, too, or even soap and water. Use a credit card rather than a razor, though, since you might scratch/chip something.

so if i find some of the thermal pad stuck to the core I just rub it off with a Q-tip (cotton swab) and alcohol? Do I need to scrape it off with the credit card? Phil told me to do it with a razor.....
Also do I need to rub the ASII into the base of the heatsink?

Well, here (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm) are the complete instructions from the arctic silver site(we need a sticky, mods!!). They should have all that stuff in there, it's not a huge process, so don't get too worried about it. Like I said before, though, make sure your fan is plugged in! You can tell I've had personal experience <twitch> :p

BTW in the ASII website they were warning me about the heatsink not being seated properly.
i believe the SK6 has an easy clip so u have no probs just do everything slowly and dont mess up

What do I put it on? the table is too hard so if I apply force to the mobo the pins on the bottom will bend!

No they won't...stop worrying!! People do this all the time! I normally work with it on my lap, since you can apply counter-pressure by lifting your leg, too. Just go and do it, it's not the huge event it seems to be.

I really need to get some antipersperent! I don't want to be dripping sweat on the mobo! LOL :D
Would it be better if I put it on foam packaging that came with my vid card?
