i have a pcchips mo bo (m848a rev 2.1) and a 3200+ barton cpu. i have just bought some geil value memory ( 2 x 512's pc3200 dual chanel) i can run windows ok, surf the net and look at pics etc but when i come to run a bench mark or play a game the screen freezes and the only thing i can do is turn the thing off. nothings overclocked. ive ran memtest and had to errors but ive bee told not to worry about this as if there was something wrong with the memory it would show up thousands of errors. correct??
anyway and help would be much appreciated.
p.s this only my second post but ive been watching the fourum for ages and love it.
cheers,andy

I have had errors before with Corsair RAM, they gave me an RMA and replaced it based on just a couple of errors in memtest. You don't say who told you that, but contact Geil and see what they say about it.

Also, what kind of benchmarks are you talking about? Do you have a video card? what chipset does that mobo have on it?

hi,
thanks for the reply,sis748 n/bridge and sis963l s/bridge chipsets. its any benchmark or game thats causing the problem ie i ran 3d mark o3 and the h/l 2 benchmark i also tried to play h/l 2 and cod. overclockers.co.uk said the ram was ok. i have actualy ordered a new mo bo so that should be with me next week its a Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe so i should be up and running then. its just till then ive got to try and play games with my crapy 256mbs of pc2100 :bang head
for some reason i cant adjust the voltage on the ram or the cpu though it says i can in the manual. the rams voltage it stuck at 2.544v if i could bump it up a wee bit i was hoping that would solve me worries.
oh my graphics card is the 9800 pro.
cheers

Ok, Here's a silly question, What kind of power supply are you running? I have had a number of random problems running under-powered PSU. If it is overtaxed or on its last leg, when you run a high power app that stresses it like a benchmark, it may not be able to handle the load and crap out on you. I have definately had that happen to me.

Power supplies are often overlooked in the upgrade path, but are extremely vital for performance applications.

just a thought... :eh?:
