View Full Version : Radeon 64DDR stuck at 640x480!
I have put together my system as follows:
ABIT KTXA-Raid with AMD 1.2Ghz/266Mhz
3x256 Crucial (cas2)
Win98se
Radeon 64DDR vivo
I have loaded the via 4in1 (v4.28) drivers in addition to the ATI and monitor (Samsung 950p) drivers.
Each time that I try and change the display to anything other than 640x480 (16 colors), when I reboot I get a message that either "the adaptor type is incorrect or the hardware is incapable of the setting." How do I solve this problem???
Thanks!
Sounds like a bad driver install or an IRQ conflict. I noticed you don't have any other hardware listed like sound card, modem, etc... Do you have any of these installed yet. If so I would remove them all except the Vid card and see if you still get the same problem. But first try and reinstall the drivers for the vid card. That may fix it.
I have removed all cards from my PCI slots. The only thing remaining is the Radeon in the AGP slot.
I reinstalled the ATI drivers and removed all the other devices that were no longer present. When I reboot now, I now get a "Windows Protection Error!"
It just seems to be getting worse!

try putting your cpu back to normal speed, and try it agan.....
Also have you tried changing your AGP speed in the bios. try 2x AGP if your using 4x and vise versa. Just a little something to try.

I had the same problem with my RAGE FURRY MAXX.
1. Try removing all the drivers you have from any vid card (or reinstall Windows)
2. Start->Settings->Control Panel->Display->Settings->Advanced->Adapter->Change->Next-> "Display list..."-> have disk...
3. Locate the dir where ur drivers are at and install from there, worked for me.

Do a fresh, clean install of your OS, then d/l the latest Radeon drivers. Then install any PCI cards etc......

Remove all ati related drivers : dvd, multimedia center, display driver ( under control panel, add/remove programs ).
Go to device manager.. display adapter properties.. and change it to Standard PCI VGA.
Run msconfig and verify Start Up option is at Normal.
Reboot to safe mode
Go to device manager and remove anything and everything that is in display adapter properties.
Delete contents in C:\windows\temp folder ( not the folder itself but all that is in there ).
Reboot to normal windows, then run your ati video driver setup file.
I assume this is in Win9x, and I assume you'd already have DirectX 8.0a installed, BUT I will not assume any responsibilties if anything goes wrong. I only advice according to what I have experienced and done, and may not work for you.
In any case, it is always safe to do some back up of your datas and files first. I have had a problems where Windows registry got really really messed up while troubleshooting card setups, so Windows re-installation was my only options left.
Good luck, and remember.. keep a cool head.
