ok i am using alpha pal6035 and the temp is 64 C!!! too damn hot. what am i doing wrong and what can i look for? i have the comp set at 133 x 10.5 to get 1.4. this is a oem 1.4 chip. the voltage is set at 1.74. the fan is at 6K please i need help, i dun want the cpu to burn up. i am using the asus a7a.

ASUS boards typically report a temperature higher than what the actual CPU temperature is. But still, you temps seem more than a bit high. What type of thermal compound are you using? How much did you apply? What type of case cooling ya got? Whats the chassis temp(sometimes called motherboard temp)?

i haven't applied any thermal compoud yet cause i started doing this at night and the stores are closed. i have a regular case fan, not sure the size, but i leave the case open anyways so the case cooling in my opinion shouldn't be a problem. the motherboard temp is at 32C. alot less than the cpu. i am getting the thermal grease tomorrow. i've read that arcticsilver is good stuff. any tips on how to apply that? should i put it on just the core?

i recommend u switch off your system and wait until u have thermal grease in hand
64 is not suprising without thermal grease and a multiplier of 10.5
You are lucky that chip didnt fry
Same cooler (Alpha Pal6035) on an Athlon 1.4@1.55 (10x155). Idle is 39-40c, load 44-45c. And mine's fitted with a 4800rpm ys tech, not a 6k jobbie like you have. Likely explanation - poor heat conduction between the cpu and the base of the cooler. Paste will help, you should check for flatness as well. I lapped mine to be sure and using ASII. The Alpha still hangs in there for an old dog - if making good contact!

I agree with "dimmreaper" as to the ASUS Probe issue. This program has been said to report temps as much as 10C higher than actual.
In my experience with the ASUS boards you should be all right with the temps in the upper 50's (as reported by the ASUS Probe).
My experience has also shown that you will run into stability problems once heat becomes an issue.
As far as running the system without any heat sink compound, didn't you do any research before jumping into this? This is a very well documented situation with the AMD CPU's, every guide advises strongly against this sort of thing and stresses the cooling issue. I also agree that you should hold your horses and wait until you have ALL of the necessary components to assemble your system. Otherwise, you’re just asking for problems.
Spend a little bit of time on the front page of this site under the heading "Beginners Guides" and possibly save yourself a lot of grief down the road.
You could also check out the new AMD FAQ page for issues pertaining to the AMD CPU's in particular.
Good Luck!

If you read the beginner's guide all your answers will be answered. You are VERY lucky you did not burn the CPU. I still don't understand the thought process of some people. So quick to burn little chips up.

The chip wont burn at 65C, the critical temp is like 95C so there is no problem running at 65c ( a bit to high but the chip WONT burn) look at the article at thoms hardware, you can see a t-bird frying...

The MAX is 95c but I would bet the farm that no t-bird will last much past 70c. But if I am incorrect please use YOUR chip and prove me wrong.

dont be mad, I just said that the chip wont burn until 95C, I dont said that it will work at those degree....
ad, min (t-bird 1.2) has go to 67C before I mod my case for better cooling and I was working
67C (according to ASUS PCProbe Withc I dont know why ppl said that the temp is 10C higher than the core, could it be because the termistor is not directly on the chip?

Never mad:)
Just don't want newbies thinking they can take their chip to 65-70c safely.
All is good.

You are right, :)
before I make mod to my case the temp where between 65-70C
I take a 80mm holesaw and drill a hole right in the back of my case, where the CPU stand and put a 80mm fan, it drop my temp by more than 10C, now I can said that is correct to have hight temp of 53-54C (far better than 65)
:)
I still think 53C is kinda on the high side. try cleaning her off and put only a little bit of thermal compound and your temps will hopefully get even lower.

I put the termal paste that came with my Vantec CCK-6035D
should I get rid of that and take Artic Silver II ?
and how do I remove termal paste, I'am afraid of frying the cpu by putting some stuff on it
53°C - 54°C is high. Try that in a hot room & play a solid game. Sure the MAX temp is 95°C & being at 65°C won't instantly fry your chip but can you really still use the potential of that CPU when temps are so high?

The room was hot, and still hot when outside temp are high, and before I cut that hole in the back of the tower, the temp where a 65C,
now they are at 55C.... but I'am still tinking of a watercolling system
I was thinking of watercooling too cause my A/C crapped out & ambient temps here are hot enough for the sun to cook.

i can't imagine if the water hoses leak........

No watercooling until I get to 2ghz on air, I have goals!!:D :D

I would like to stick with aircooling but it's just too hot w/o an A/C:o . If I just had cooler a climate then..........

My 1.4 ghz runs at 74C under load and idles at 66-67C:(
I've had it for 4 weeks and used it heavily in various games before I found out this was to hot.
I got a coolmaster Spirge type HSF atm ( 17.8 cfm gah) that came on it.
I have ordered a Ventec 6035d to fix this, but I seen above someone say this would fry a system, actually I have crashed one time in 4 weeks of online gaming in everquest/DaoC beta on full modes:) I'm convinced that wasn't even a temp related crash.
I have a Biostar M7vib motherboard which has its sensor under the chip so it may or may not even be accurate, can't find much info or others using the same motherboard:(

thanks for all the info guys, i did some research and found out that the asus reports temp about 10 degrees too high compared to the abits. i put the thermal grease on and now the temp is at 56 constant even under heavy load. so if u compare that to an abit board its about 46 give or take a bit. i'm gonna get an extra case fan and suck air out underneath the processor. i think it might lower it 2-3 degrees.
If you where to put a temp probe between your heatsink and cpu, you will see a big difference in temps. My M/B states 57 C and the temp probr states 42-43 C.
