bios means basic "input output services".They are different type of bios in a computer. Its quite complex.Quicky the bios is contained somewhere in the rom (read only memory) and address the basic commands to resident equipment or to non resident equipment but all knowned as firmware by opposition to software. It install the elements that basically wont move or reside almost permanently in the computer: keyboard mouse CD ROM DVD Video Cards ehternet etc...But some bios are also drivers its called the registry and are located permanently in a part of the address bus just for them...
My opinion: Bios are very complex and sensitive. In dealing with bios you must very careful and know exactly what you do.
Do this go on Amzon.com and buy an old version of an A+ certification book. The 4th version is about $20 and start reading its all there...

You don't need to read a A+ book to learn about the bios, actually the A+ test doesn't require the repair technician to know that much about the bios, since bios options will very from board to board. It'll be much cheaper to follow the link and much easer to find out what you need to know. Just make sure you know where the clear bios jumper or the battery is and you'll be fine.

Allow me to slightly differe from your opinion. A+ exam can be sometime extensively Bios oriented...
But I did not recommend that book with that state of mind. The Michael Meyers book 4th edition for A+ certification is just in my opinion a great informative tool well written simple to understand even for a beginners.
Now I need help on oc can you help?

The guide is free online, don't have to buy the book. Dude it's not that I don't agree with you about the A+ book, but the A+ book will not describe in detail all of the bios option like the online guide does, the A+ test doesn't include many bios options specially those that will improve performance, because the thechnician's job is to fix the pc not optimize it, therefore most books won't include such a bios guide as the one online.

Oh yeah by the way:Welcome to the forums

ok I do agree. I saw the web its cool no problem.I will probably use it for myself at some time or another. Since Alexandria seems to be a beginner would you agree that scrolling through registry and device drivers is might be a little to much.
Here s my suggestion.Buy the A+ book read about bios and use the website as well.
