I'm running a 3.2 800 512 in my IC7G and would like to lower the voltage below the stock 1.55. That seems to be the lowest setting in my bios. Is there a bios update that allows lower cpu voltages than 1.55?

Welcome to the forums.

Abit boards seem to undervolt by about one "notch" on the scale so you may already be running at 1.525 even if it reports 1.55.
I do not think they have a BIOS revision for going lower.

Thanks for the welcome and for the response :)

Bios update won't let you lower voltage,

Why would you want to lower the voltage? If you have the cooling, why not see how high you can overclock on stock voltage? That won't affect the life of your processor as long as your temps are decent....... are you using the stock HS or do you have an aftermarket HS?

I want to undervolt to get my temps down. I have tried both stock and aftermarket and I still lock up playing games. My temps hit over 63C with an incredibly loud Aerocool. I downgraded to a 2.8 with the stock HSF and I don't get the lockups anymore...altho my temps still get over 60C during heavy gaming. I assume my board reads a bit high...supposedly Abit reads ~10C high. I couldn't stand the noise with the other HSF. The stock fan is at least tolerable. I ran a 2.4 in this same case and barely broke 40C with an Epox board. I have no idea why the 2.8 northy runs so hot. The 3.2 I could understand but it was a Northwood as well.

What thermal paste are you using and are you sure that you applied it correctly? Aftermarket HS's don't usually have temps that high unless you applied the TIM incorrectly or mounted the HS incorrectly.

I'd recommend buying Arctic Silver 5 and following their instructions here: LINK (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm)

You usually get at least 5°C lower load temps just by using AS5 and I'd imagine that in your case it will drop significantly if you follow the instructions to the letter...... you might consider doing case mods to lower your case temps as well: hiding cables, installing a blowhole and sidepanel fan, removing stock fan grills.

Hope this helps :)

I have a Lian Li PC65 so I'm not going to cut it up ;) It has very nice cooling and kept my 2.4 in the 30's most of the time but I was undervolting that chip. I was also using the stock TIM that came with the retail HSF on it. I'm using AS now with another stock fan.
