I think my Hard drive is F***** UP. I was downloading Linux-Mandrake 8.1 Beta 3, when I got a stupid "Explorer.exe has caused an internal error and ...", and it cuts my download at 30 MB from completion. But that's not my problem. THE problem is that before and while I was downloading, I had 1.22 GB of free disk space on my drive C: (I was downloading it on drive D: anyways !), but after the error, it said I had 250 MB free ! WTF !!! Next, as it already happened to me, I restart to get some more realistic numbers (that's what I did last time and it gave me back my 1.2GB). But this time, still at 250MB. I then thought windows had an error displaying the real thing, so I do a scandisk. It found 2 or 3 errors, but nothing related with "error displaying disk space" or something. Now, after the scandisk, I go back in My Computer, to check the free space : IT F***ING SAYS I ONLY HAVE 12 MB FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF is going on ? Is my Windows completely distroyed ?

Please help ! Where did all those MB go ?????

I did it, about 4 times, but it still doesn't give me back my 1.2GB. I think I'll just format and install XP (when I get it)

i know some worms make notepad files that just fill up with information to eat up hd space, look for documents that are incredibly large, but for heavens sake if you find one dont try to open it, if its gonna be like a 1 gig wordpad document or something i think your comp might crash.

Clean out Temproary Files using Windows Disk Cleanup. Probably when you were downloading the file was first written to C:, but when it crashed it didn't delete it form the Temp folder.

That's what I was thinking.

That's what I thought too, but I checked and the entire c:\windows\temp folder is about 25 MB ! Doesn't take up too much of a 1 GIG !

Do you have tools such an Norton WinDoc? And just try Disk Cleanup program, you got nothing to loose anyway.

Than you can also open Windows Find application, and search for *.tmp . In the list of all the files look for big files (like not the ones that are around 1mb in size)...

do an updated virus scan
