Hey guys, Im looking into buying a laptp within a few months.

heres what I am looking for
>$2000 (give or take)
Car paint finish.
Mobile Pentium (not p4 or AMD64) cause I need the battery life
under 7ibs, (preferably under 6)
Good battery life
And preferably 1/2 gig of ram. But its not required,
ATI 9700 mobile

Im easy going on anything really, except the paint. I want an extremly mobile laptop that people will look at and say "wow thats a really nice computer!"

SO most of the standard companies are out like Dell, IBM, COmpaq, HP, ect. I was really attracted to Voodoopc cause there new m50 only weighs 3.5ibs and its awsome. But its overpriced, for $1500 I wouldn't blink, but they start at $2000

So I've found hypersonci-pc.com im looking at the cx5.

Sager (sp?) would be good for you, my friend just bought one. I personally prefer Alienware for my laptops. Oh yea, and Alienware has the best paint job around :)

sager is the same thing, but they look crappy with flat paint. The price is right, but Im looking for something flashy. I'll just tell you, Im expecting to make between $500 and $900 a month, im a minor, but I will be working as a contractor, so I may or may not be paying taxes. I have no living expenses and I don't pay insurance or gas or car payment. Im thinking of droping some coin in this and then craming the rest in some sort of investment, a CD at worst.

Go with Alienware then, they offer really well made and flashy stuff (I've got an Area-51m ) but the price is the most restrictive for average buyers.

Btw, what are you doing to make that kind of money?

How about buying a laptop that may not be as good looking as you want, but has all the technical specifications you desire. Then get it home, carefully disassemble it and bring the case (frame or whatever is the appropriate word for the housing of it) to either an auto body shop or one of those airbrush places they have in a mall. Have you considered any of Sony's new models. Their displays look pretty good and they are ultra portable and feature Centrino/Dothan and ATI components. Best Buy's web site has them kind of on the expensive side, but when I went to the Best Buy store, the prices were a lot lower. I saw a couple of models for only $1249.

Then you never have heard of Falcon Northwest (and apparently, neither have the rest of you guys). Alienware makes nice comps, but they look nothing like a Falcon. We're talking 10-20 layers of hand sprayed auto paint (and this is like $200000 Lamborghini Diablo kinda auto paint). Go to their webste (falcon-nw.com) and click on the "view our Exotix" link. Scroll over to the one thats called something like "Black with Sliver Falcons" and look at the side panel on the ground. Now you know what I'm talking about. They are EXPENCIVE, but worth every penny.

Here's the pic I was talking about, but check out the rest of their comps too. The Half Life 2, USA flag, and A64-FX ones are AMAZING, as are all the rest of them. Oh right, the pic:

If you want looks, go with F-NW.

Very nice, but the American Flag has become a bit clichéd for me. Since whoever has a bunch of money lying around, he could probably specially order a custom paint job from Falcon. I know that the head guy over at the ns hl mod (http://www.natural-selection.org) got a Voodo laptop with the NS logo on it. Talk about bling bling at lan parties :)

here are a couple of links to web sites that sell painted laptops. Just remember that most of the laptops this guys sell are the same.EX.(VM b50ultra,voodoom360,FalconNWfragbooktl are all the same laptop) The only thing you pay more or less for is the support and name that comes with that laptop

No kidding. And I'm not a big fan of that specific design either, the flag looks ike its pinched at the top. but it was the first pic I found of an exotix laptop.

And to the post above, that is most certainly true. well, that and brand name (and in some cases, the quality of the paint job). A FNW will cost more than a voodoo (thats debatable) will cost more than a VM will cost more than a PCtorque, etc.

Have you looked at Acer's Ferrari series?

http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/fr3200.htm

A bit pricey, and Not Pentium M from what I can see, but they are NICE laptops.

Well I found a place that does the paint quite cheapply $100, hopefully its still a high quality finish,

Anyways, I really wanted a centrino, and they don't offer the pain in centrino, so I was looking at the AMD64 notebooks, pretty good price,

www.cyberpowerinc.com i was looking at the x64-8000 and the 9000, battery life is a concern, but so is price. I figure its worth it to carry and extra battery and save sevral hundread dollars.

On higher end laptops you won't get the best battery length or weight, but you will also get more things included. Its all a balance.

They have nice specs and I see them in a bunch of ads but one of my friends has a friend (yea i know) who bought one and said they basicly didn't provide any service.

Ibuypower paint jobs arn't nearly on par with FNW.

Unfortunitly, it costs the exact same to the dime. Its the same computer too as

www.cyberpowerinc.com offers, and they are based in CA as well, so I pay taxes eitehr way.

Get the most laptop for your money without the paintjob, then just decal it up, then it looks personal. Just picked up the Gateway 7244gx on the bestbuy deal last week. Very flat paintjob, but it will be customized by me soon.

why would you waste your money on a painted laptop, honestly no one will care whether your laptop looks like a honda civic with decals all over it, and if they do, they will be over it in 30 seconds.

maybe you can get a cpu fan that sounds like a rice muffler...

and have a boost gauge on the laptop for overclocking, and hit it when you want it to shut up about your cpu over heating and your manifold thats going to burst.

Excuse me, did I ever say that I would put stickers on it? No, I want something that looks nice. Im not into civis at all, infact I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on a 65 El Camino right now, FIgure I can put together a decent rod with $6000. Anyways, Im dissapionted, desktops are all going hih glass now, why is everyone so against this?

Anyways, I think that Im going to have to invest in my PC for now, these things are expensive and for A decent machine im going to blow about $1500, at least, that would build a top end computer. I don't think I can do this. BUt thans for you help. I think once I go to a 4 year school, I will invest in a laptop, until then, I'll stick with my watercooled, glossy paint, 2600 XP-m @ 2.6ghz, dual 10k Raptor, 5800U computer and be lauging at the Notebook guys who can't pull decent frames in HL2.

because it very stupid of someone to spend $450 USD on a paint job for a laptop which will be outdated in 1 - 2 years.
It doesnt seem like your rich since you want to get an el camino and only spend $6000. Your money is better spent on hardware or even put towards a nice paint job for the el camino.
