I have an athlon 1.1 ghz, 256 mushkin rev 3 pc133, and two maxtor 40 gig hard drives on a kt7-raid motherboard. I am running ata100 but no raid.
I recently installed windows XP, final release, and my hard drive activity seems to be a little strange. It will access the drive every 3-5 seconds for about half a second and it will sometimes cause my mouse to skip! Has anyone else experienced this problem? A friend of mine has a KG7-RAID with an athlon 1.4 ghz and 512 ddr pc 2100. He also has a maxtor hard drive and is experiencing this.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

hard to say, but if you have your fsb too high it can effect your hard drive, and I think your mouse(may be wrong), but if your friend has the same problem, sounds like it could be software problem. Also are you using a usb mouse? If so, try using a PS/2. Maybe someone else has some better ideas.

If you have a cdrom, dvd or other device on the same ide channel as the hard drive try moving it to the other channel.
Also do not install any amd or via drivers with win xp.

Yea same thing happend to me, I think it is a support problem with the ide drivers and chipset drivers. I went back to 2k and it fixed it. Wait till xp gets better support then go back.

Have u installed the via 4-1 drivers??? And have u activated dma?

Or it can be a winblowsXP problem............. XP sux, install win2k instead. Much more stable and for some weird reason its faster with direct3d games!! Which the xp should have been better than win2k accourding to m$
