I grabbed a fortron 350 to power my new old dual P3 system, thinking that would be plenty, but i see now it has 2 12V rails - one rated at 15A (YEL+BLA)
and one at 10A (YEL). The thing is, the only place i see a yellow/black stiped wire is on the 4-pin 'extra' motherboard connector, which P3 boards don't use, everywhere else seems to have only the solid yellow wire.
As it is, this means my mobo+drives+fans will only be able to draw 10A at 12V, so i'm thinking of taking the black+yellow wire and using it to run either the board or all the drives. Is this ok? anyone done this before? if so, what are you powering on seperate rails? if something blows up, it seems logical to have it on a completely seperate rail to prevent any damage to other components...

I would cut the +12 going to the motherboard and use the second +12 line for the motherboard, leaving the 10A line for drives and fans, which should be sufficient

do the mobo and CPUs use much 12V? i plan to run quite a few hard disks. also, if i do take the black/yellow wire, will i want the corresponding ground wire? or are they all the same..

ground is all the same.
and as far as the board/cpu goes, im not sure about P3's...i'd maybe ask in the SMP section

thanks Aphex_
a bit of research reveals that older single P3s don't use 12V power, still not 100% sure about tualatin dualies tho. oh well. i'm going 10A rail to the mobo, 15A to fans and disks.
*chops up another new PSU*
