Ok I just got my compunurse last night. I have been running a 1.4 at 1.6 for two weeks at full load folding without a problem. I had a serious feeling the insocket thermistor was reporting temps way too high. So I got my compunurse last night and was trying to slide it between the heatsink and plastic plate while the comp was on. I noticed that I must have just bumped the power supply wire off the 3 prong plug on the motherboard. I plugged it back in and looked at the back of the power supply and smelled something odd. A faint smell of something burning. I looked at the monitor and it was blank so i powered down the PC.
Now the button on the PC won't turn it on. I have to use the switch on the back. When i flip it the fans all turn on and the lights all go but the screen stays blank. I hear no post beep from the speaker. It looks like its running but the reset switch and power button don't work. I have to again use the switch in the back to turn it off. What the hell did I do wrong??!? What did I break?

How the heck could my board burn??? I don't get it. The only thing that happened is my PSU fan connected came off the motherboard connection..... So at most the power supply fan was not running for a minute or two. The last motherboard I fried wouldn't even power up. If the motherboard was friend why would the power switch turn everything on and make everything blink...
1. Try another CPU
2. Try another set of RAM
You know were this is heading so get going & hope your pockets are full = J

I don't have spare DDR laying around nor another CPU.
Cool down & check with your buds tom. What made you think of reinserting any type of plug back to a mobo while it's running?!?!?! Even more so that it was a power plug.

Man it was just one of those little fan plugs.... I didn't think it was that big of a deal...... :(
Give the it the night off. Are the 1.4s really hotter than the 1.33 at the same clockspeed?

I did give it the night off. It was last night that this happened.... :(
Which FAN was unplugged if it was the HSF then it could bu the CPU. Sorry to hear about the loss maybe it's still on warranty & you can get a replacement

No no no. It was the power supply fan connector. I have an SK6 so that is on a molex connector.
I can't figure out why it won't boot up now just becuase the PSU fan came unplugged for a few mintues.

I think you shortend something out on the mobo when reconnecting the fan. Not the not working fan killed anything, but the short, when you plugged it in when the System was still running. I´m sorry for your loss, but I would believe your mobo is done.:(

What do you mean power supply fan? How can the PSU fan connector connects to your motherboard, that doesn't make sense. The PSU fan gets power directly from the PSU, not from the motherboard. You said its a 3 prong connector, to me this sounds like a CPU fan connector. But if it isn't your SK6 fan, then it must a be a connector to some other fan, not your PSU fan. In any case, you should never plug/unplug those connectors or any other connectors to your mobo while it's running. The smoke you smell is that of your mobo's death. It was a nice motherboard, say farewell to it and give it a nice little funeral like it deserves.

Wouldn't I get no power to anything if my mobo was fried? And yes it was a tiny 3 prong plug going from my PSU to the motherboard. Perhaps it wasn't power and just and RPM monitoring plug?
If my motherboard is fried why does everyone power up and blink?
I'm not familiar with your mobo or PSU, but did you plug this connector back to the same place? Maybe you plugged into a diffection connector or something. I think that some part of your motherboard was burnt and some functionality of it is no longer working. It may power up but missing some of its functions, i.e. the reset and power leads. Have tried clearing your CMOS? How about removing everything except the bare essentials like CPU RAM and video card. Your AGP is probably toast since you're not getting any video signals to your monitor.

My equipment is listed in my sig. Its the abit kg7 comp.
No I haven't done those things. Tonight I guess I'll try clearing the CMOS and removing some components.
And yes I plugged the PSU pin connector into the same place it was plugged in.
You might also try running your system out of the case. Remove the mobo from the computer case and set it on a newspaper or something. Then connect the power supply, kybrd, mouse and video, install only the bare essentials. That way you totally isolate your mobo from the environment.
I had a similar situation where my computer wouldn't power on, no matter what I tried. Then I did the above and behold it worked. Turned out, there was an additional screw that holds my old mobo to case, but my new mobo didn't have a screw hole there. So that screw was touching the case and a noninsulated part of my mobo, scary. But it didn't kill the new mobo, luckily. I removed the screw and boom! everything worked. Not saying you might have the same problem, but it might be something similar.
If the plastic plate you are talking about is a cpu shim you just fried your bird. Even with the very small thermister that the enermax temp probe comes with will not fit between a shim hsf.

No its the plastic piece on the motherboard. I am not using a shim.
Did you get her back already?

Dude the board is a goner..... i did the same thing a while back to my spare computer... It was a Abit BE6-2 m/b.... hell i screwed it buy trying to unplug the P/S connector to the m/b with the cup still in the slot 1.. The plug was right behind the cpu.. So when i tried to get my hand in there to unplug it i must of nudged the cpu and i heard a pop.. Now trust me the power was off when i did this but the power cord was still attached... So after that the damn thing never ever turned on again.. I had an old BX6-2 Abit board and the cpu and memory and everything would power up and boot but not on the other board... I even had the board sitting out of the case and swaped back and forth between the 2 m/bs...
The thing of it is this...Just like your board, mine would power up the fans and stuff connected to the m/b but no post! No beep,no boot or nothing..
So what there trying to tell you prob is what happen 2 yours... The motherboard poped somewhere frying something on it.. You can take it out and examin the board and see if all the transistors look melted or theres any black marks on the underneath... That would show ya if its burnt or not.
About the only thing you want to go pluggin in or unpluggin on your motherboard is like the led light connectors.. hell i've done that and no probs....
Good luck man...
But yeah try rippin it out and lay it on a big peace of card board and hook everything up and see if it boots...
