Fastest: WD Raptor or SCSI
Quitest: Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung (debated)
Not good: IBM

Western Digital is also good, but the 80gb model I had made a wine at idle which was too loud for my quiet pc. It's not as loud as the whine on my IBM though!

i call best whatever will take the abuse i throw at it. Currently, i'm usin' 2 seagate harddrives, and they are workin' great. As long as they boot up, keep my info there, and doesn't have a head crash (happens to me all the time... i tend to get physical with my pc.... LOL)..... that's all i look for.

The new Maxtor Diamondmax 10's are supposed to be as fast as a raptor in some situations, however it still loses in cases where raw spindle speed win. However when you factor in the $/gb I think I have my answer as to which HD is the best out there (Diamondmax10 :p ).
