well, i'll try my best to explain what's happening.

the problem happens randomly, when it happens it changes the color on the screen. sort of like what the connection is loose, you get color shifting (changed little dimmer, or color is off. too red, or too blue). after a few second, it'll be back to normal again. i can't really reproduce the problem, it just happens on and off. :(

i have vga silencer plus extra fan blowing on the card, so i don't think it's heat related. it just feels like the card is dying.

has anyone experienced this problem before? or knows what the problem might be?

I have this problem with my crappy old AMD K6 based computer. I soon realized that the problem was not the VGA, but was my monitor's color bleeding problems.

well, my 15" nec lcd is only about 18 mo old. i would think the lcd should last longer than that right?

I would check it with another monitor, and double check PSU rails and the cards connection into the slot and power.

My guess is that you have partially cracked / chipped the core on your 9800 and it is on its way out :(

ya, i am about to do that when i have time later today. i did realize my 12v is low under load, to 11.67v. however, the problem happens even on idle.

this did happened once: when i boot up the computer, i got the error msg saying the 9800pro power wasn't connect which i know was indeed connected.

*sigh* i hope this is not the case.. :(

anyway to check if the core is cracked or chipped by eye?

I highly doubt you cracked your core, it sounds like a power problem to me, especially since you got that error message. Try a new PSU if it turns out to not be that monitor.
